You can skip reading this part if you like.
First of all let me introduce myself because this is my first post; I have been a modder for a pretty long time, but that was mostly for the game Battle for Middle Earth. I made my own models, though, so I am no stranger to gmax, and I recently started modding M2TW, which is a lot more fun because it is such a sweet looking game.
Anyway I am a big LOTR fan and really liked the look of the Easterlings in the movies, so the biggest mod I made for B4ME was a mod called "Men of the East" which added an Easterling faction and a bunch of new units. It was pretty cool apart from a few coding errors, but just before I got M2TW I had a massive computer crash that forced me to format my hard drive, so that's gone now
To get to the point:
When I got M2TW I started modding pretty quick, getting started on a "Fourth Age"' type mod and made a few Easterling models with varying levels of armour; I can upload them if you like, once I get my other computer on the net, but I haven't skinned them yet.
The way my Easterling faction worked was that almost every infantry unit was really good against one type of unit (melee infantry, cavalry, or archers), decent against another type, and weak against the remaining type.
As a general rule- carries a shield=good against archers
My infantry units were as follows:
1. "elites" carry the 5 ft polearm but no shield; in The Two Towers they are the two men that almost spot Frodo and Sam outside the black gate.
Good against infantry, decent against cavalry, weak against archers
2. Swordsmen carry a sword and shield.
Good against archers, decent against other infantry, weak against cavalry
3. "Pikemen" carry a 14 ft pike (NOT the polearm you see in the movies; it is different and has a smaller head) and a sword. No shield.
Good against cavalry, decent against infantry, weak against archers
4. "regular" infantry- the ones you see march into the Black Gate in the movie; carry a 9-ft polearm and a shield. In M2TW I was planning on having them carry the shield around when marching as defense against archers but sling it over their back in close combat, using their polearm more effectively against infantry as a halberd.
Unique in that they are decent against both infantry and archers and good against cavalry.
Those were the main four, but additionally I had a type of light archer, a more heavily armed and armoured archer, two types of cavalry archers (one fast and light, one slow and heavy, but with a slightly longer range), a kind of heavy but fast "shock" cavalry, and a light cavalry unit.
Okay, that's pretty much it for the Rhun faction. If the modders want to look at my models I would be glad to load up a few pics, but keep in mind they are REALLY poly heavy right now and I am working on cleaning them up a bit.
Well that was a long post and I congratulate anyone who actually read the entire thing.
Cheers,
Liam
