    Default Question about unit armour

I have the same armour smith building in both Milan and Toulouse (as France). Milan is a city while Toulouse is a castle. How come Milan's militia get gold armour icons but my Toulousian knights only get a bronze armour icon?

    They're better than you!

No, to be honest, they're just more advanced and professional than your guys are. These units are vets at defense apparently.

One of the biggest problems with leadership is that sometimes people mistake strength of force as good leadership, when it in reality shows the opposite.

The armor icons don't indicate the type of armor your units have, but how many times the unit's armor has been upgraded. Bronze = upgraded once, silver = upgraded twice, and gold = upgraded three times. It does not necessarily mean that the unit with a gold icon has better armor than a unit with a bronze icon. For example:

A unit of town militia can be upgraded 3 times, from None -> Padded -> Light Mail -> Heavy Mail. Thus they have the gold icon to indicate they've been upgraded three times. Their final armor is Heavy Mail.
A unit of knights can be upgraded but once, from Heavy Mail -> Partial Plate. Thus they have a bronze icon to show they've been upgraded once. However their final armor is still superior to that of the town militia.
