Default 2 Questions (command stars and senate popularity)

I know that when battles are auto- resolved, the number of command stars a general has is a big influence on the outcome.

However, does the number of command stars hold much influence when you fight battles on the map?

If not, is any general as good as another in terms of just a heavy cavalry unit?

    My other question:

I'm playing as the julii, and when I capture certain settlements, it makes me loose popularity with the senate. Why? Is there another way to maintain popularity with the senate?

Your popularity will decrease as you take more and more settlements and the people start to like you more for your conquests. No way to stop that from happening.

Command stars influence morale of your armies units, AFAIK. So a 10 star general is much better than a 1 star any day, even on the battlefield.

As was said command stars help with Morale...

As for the Senate...there is nothing you can do to get them to like you. The Senate is the hot cheerleader and you are in the chess club... its not gonna work out.

Ive tried before to play a Senate appeasement game. I did everything they asked. gave them money and cities. and still I couldnt get a high "likeness" rating. And soon enough they will start to hate you just for any expansion that you do.

Just give up on the Senate... wait 30yrs and when you meet on the battlefield she'll be fat with three sets of twins living in a trailer park...you'll have made the right decision

Your general unit is there to use the special "Rally" command to raise unit morale when your battle lines are faltering, use him to gallop behind struggling units and toot his horn and then wheel around their flank and rout them so your infantry can support other weak parts of the line while your light cavalry chase down the fleeing enemies. So it isn't the same as regular heavy cavalry, you should use him primarily to support and secondarily to engage other heavy cavalry, it's still a good idea to have some heavy cavalry as well to engage the enemy general or any chariots/heavy cav they might have.

As for the Senate, in order to win you need to control Rome, so just make sure you do the missions that prevent your faction being punished, and do any missions where you already planned to do what they asked, it's easy, or the reward is nice(unless you're doing an AAR and you're a "loyal roman"). After a while, in my case when I last played the Scipii, it was after I controlled Spain/Carthage/Numidia/Egypt and was at war with Pontus that they exiled me and I got to send three stacks to mutilate Rome .

    Cheers,
    Augustus

Senate is never worth anything only kiss arse when the reward is worth the time wasted, general wise the more stars more bodyguard, better morale, and better auto-resolve results.

Even if outlawed, you can still get back into your alliance again as with me. I was asked to become a protectorate, lol. I did out of curiosity, rebuilt my army and used my 'protectors' as cannon fodder for other enemies, then defeated them when weakened.

A good general is a bonus with more Stars,as pointed out with morale for one,the other for rallying troops. You can not do this with normal cavalry.

But does the units get morale if the general isn't near them? I mean the spirits aren't lifted but does they get overall basic morale or you receive the bonus only for units close to him? Hmm we need to run some tests for this .

the senate didnt exile me even though i had 49 territories. i planned on making war when they asked my faction leader to die or something but that didnt happen and i wanted rome so i just went and took it and won the game. it was really weird cuz i won the game with scipii...and it was my first time playing. the scipii are the hardest to play arent they?

The morla bonus is only for those units near the general. The entire army receives a 1+ defense bonus for every command star your general has.
Although this may disappoint some people, I am indeed alive, I just went inactive for three years.

There's no stat bonuses for command stars, just morale. Command stars only raise the morale of units near the general. However, if the general has traits like "untouched by fear", which raise the morale of units, it affects the entire army, regardless of where the general is. So moral traits are sometimes more useful than stars...

I am fairly certain that there is a defense bonus for each command star. Some believe there is also an attack bonus, but this is generally ignored.

I don't know where you got the info but I've never heard of a defense bonus before now (I have heard of an attack bonus, but as you said, its ignored), and it's wrong. Morale bonus only.
