On my Venitian SS 6.1 campaign my allies, Sicily, were besieging a genoese settlement. I already had an army of mine on the way to capture that same settlement. So I was a bit bummed out that it was already being besieged, but I decided to attack anyway (I had catapults).
On the pre-battle screen I got the option of controlling the Sicilian army in battle, so I checked it. In the battle itself I only had to shoot a hole in the wall and then set the Sicilians to be "aggressive".
The Sicilians managed to take the city on their own while suffering around 30-40% casualties (some caused by catapults), my troops were safely outside the settlement doing nothing.
After the battle was over I got to keep the settlement. Is this normal or what? It doesn't seem logical at all that the Sicilians would have no trouble with me taking over the settlement after they spent some turns sieging (they had a tower and two rams ready) it.
I gifted the city to them afterwards, to make up for their casualties.
