Icon2 Epic Moments of Your M2TW Campaigns...

I think the greatest moment I ever had was when pretty much all of Europe broke out into war. I was playing as the Egyptians at the time and had sent a few diplomats to meet with the Holy Roman Empire, Papal States, France, England, Spain, and the Milanese. Somehow, I managed to get an alliance with ALL of them (I had a great deal of trade going on, though; guess that bought me the ticket to what I thought was the easy road).

Anywho, I get to playing and about 2 turns later, they ALL start fighting one another.

England invades France (at Rennes) and the HRE (at Hamburg), Spain invades England (at London), then Scotland decides to beat on England for a while at Nottingham, Milan invades the HRE at Innsbruck, the HRE turns on Milan, Denmark, AND France, then the Papal States decides to attack Florence for some damn reason.

This whole thing never made any sense, but damn was it cool! The thing lasted for about 17 turns, too. When it first broke out, I cancelled all treaties, alliances, and trade rights to these guys immediately.

I'm guessing a few thousand people died, lol.

I was aiming for something along the lines of the Triple Entente and the Central Powers meets the Middle Ages. I'm a guy who likes peace in the game, not war. I like to build in M2TW, but then they messed it all up, lol.

    Then again, as Blackadder said:

"There was only one problem with the alliances, George..."
    "What's that then, sir?"
    "The whole thing was bollocks."

One of the biggest problems with leadership is that sometimes people mistake strength of force as good leadership, when it in reality shows the opposite.

I was playing England and I had captured Bruges and Antwerp when they were rebel-controlled. After a while Denmark betrayed me and attacked Antwerp with an overwhelming force. It was at least 2 to 1 in their favor and I couldn't get reinforcements. I wish I had kept track of the exact numbers, because it was really terrible.

It was hopeless but I fought it out on the battlemap so I could at least try to kill as many of their soldiers as possible. Well to my surprise I managed to almost completely annihilate their army and still have a respectable number of my guys left. I distinctly remember that I killed many more of them than I even had in my army to begin with. Glad I didn't autoresolve it to save time.

Well it wasn't quite as great as it sounds. This was before Kingdoms and before one or both of the patches. As a result, the Danish army acted a bit buggy and some of their units were sitting ducks at times. And I was playing on the easy battle setting.

Another epic (in a bad way) moment was before the 2nd patch when an inquisitor killed my heir while he was on a crusade.

Mongol invasion! In my Byzantine campaign (I think I've mentioned this in another thread before) I abandoned the Middle East and went crazy with troop production. On the factions graph my military power line was a very steep upwards slope since the turn the Mongolians arrived until the epic showdown!

I had about 20 stacks of soldiers ready for the fight, and in a move that predates D-Day by several hundred years, I invaded the WHOLE coast of the Levant, from Alexandria to Antioch, my soldiers poured forth from their ships to do battle with the Mongolian invader.

In about 5 turns, 30ish battles were fought, indeed some were lost (mainly in Egypt, where the bulk of the Mongolians' 6 chevron armies were still stationed) but in the end I was victorious as at the conclusion I enacted a collosal invasion of Egypt with every soldier that still stood in that area of the map, ammounting to around 10 or 15 stacks attacking across the Sinai and shattering Mongolian resistance.

I'm still on my first campaign, playing as Venice, but my favorite part was when I slaughtered one Byzantine army and put another to flight, with a single army of my own. It was in the mountains, and I realized I couldn't fight their horse archers on the plain so I backed up a bit and hoped the two enemy armies would come after me. Well they did, and ran against my extremely defendable position with little success. It was high, really high, and the biggest point of entry was between two small cliff faces. The horse archers raced up the mountainside and tried to work their brand of havoc, but my own archers (about 8 units worth) forced them to rout with a few well aimed and timed volleys. Then the enemy general tried the same thing, but my own cavalry fell upon him like wolves. He was killed, the bodyguard routed, but their main infantry force was still to come. I ordered the archers let off a few volleys of fire arrows, and at least a hundred enemy troops sizzled and died before they even reached the battle.

The enemy troops were tired, and wary of the fire arrows, so when my own fresh spearmen charged down the hill to fight, they broke and ran. 1700 men went in, and only 300 escaped. The second army arrived around this point, and sent their horse archers forth to try again, but they were again forced to rout. Then the second Byzantine army simply turned and ran off the field. I had put defeated two Byzantine armies set against me, losing maybe 80 men.

In my SS 6.1 Grand Campaign when I finally reached the Holy land after
being attacked by: France, Hungary, Turkey, Byzantines, and Fatimids along the way.
When I finally reached Jerusalem my army was in tatters. Luckily, the city was lightly defended by the Fatimids so I took it after the reasonably hard battle.
After that, Pope gave me best relationships status ever.
And I was playing for England btw.

Grand campaign as the HRE i had crippled Poland to one settlement but I didn't know where it was. My armies at the time had been diminished to hiring mercs to fill up the stack because my nearest castle that could give me superior units was pretty far, When I fanally found the last Polish castle (Iasi) they had made an Alliance with Hungary, which had provided a full stack of units. I decided to attack both at the same time one by a hair and with barely any men took Iasi as my prize.

My first campaign as the Turks. Anyways, I managed to build a nice empire, my cities was all advanced, and I had a lot of money. Then the Mongols came, . This was my first game on M2TW, so I didn't really know how powerful the mongol were. So when they came, I was totally unprepare, they conquered all my cities/castles in Turkey, I was forced to fled to Greece, with only three cities left.

A few turns later, the mongols invaded Egypt, and most of their stacks was in Egypt. So I decided to strike, with two full stack of Janissary Heavy Inf, Quapukulu, and Ottoman Infantry, I managed to reclaim three of my cities, a few turns later, the Mongols sued for peace, I demanded 40,000d, and they agreed. We were at peace for almost 40 turns.
not really epic, but pretty great.

My first ever campaign with England.

I had won so many Heroic victories with my longbowmen and english knights.

Controlled all of europe up to Poland and was making my way to the Holy Land but Timuirids ruines it for me.

Now playing SS and never get past 60 turns because I get distracted by another Faction. Its quite annoying really!

I was playing Russia once, I managed to get Denmark as my ally, so Poland and Hungary kept annoying and started to attack me, I alwasy win the battles I fought but when the Mongols came they somehow made an alliance with them so I saw a Danish Diplomat in Novgorod I managed to get the faction to fight the Mongols, so the next few turns I saw the Danish King and a huge army of bad***es heading towards the Khans Army which are also hard, I decided to join in to fight, the next turn I saw Hungary and Poland near the Mongols with a huge army, and in the next turn all H*** broke loose in one battle, bodies were everywhere, Family Members killed, I eventually killed the Khan and the Polish King and a Hungarian Family member but I lost a Danish Family Member and my own, eventually we won and since there were so much bodies and men, my computer got Uber-Lagged

I was playing as england, about 5 turns in the whole world decided they hated me. And so ensumed a war with portugal, milan, france, denmark, HRE, venice, and eventualy Poland and hungry. So flash forward 60 turns half those factions have been eliminated and my empire has become very tired of war. It came down to one last battle to seige the HRE's last stronghold. They were waiting for me and were prepare for a last stand, It ended up being (unfortunatly small battle settings but they were full stacks) two of their armies 900 troops and 600 troops v my 800 troops.

I set my army up on a hill and quickly found myself totaly surrounded. It was really cool to look at, the massive army of black marching out of the forests moving to surround the shinning english army on the high hill. Im pretty sure theres some symbolism there lol. Wasnt a routing victory either, both sides had talented generals so the troups almost fought to the death. I was just waiting for my army to rout, but then just seconds before my army crumbled the enemy general was killed and their troops finnaly broke.

Was playing as the Moors, managed to hold off combined incursions from Sicily, Milan, Venice, Castile, and France, and somehow keep Portugal as a staunch ally throughout. Was pretty funny considering the battle AI when I successfully trade military access and asked them to attack France, and they did. Wiped out Papal States in a couple turns by sending 6 half-stacks after their settlements in a combined naval offensive, and still to the end of the campaign Portugal never raised a finger against me :hmmm: (and this was on VH/VH)

    Cheers,

My most epic battle. Heres a quote from my post in the "Heroic Victories" thread

Ok, this is one of my most memorable game moments of all time, and i would like to share it with you all. Unfortunately this was a long time ago and i never took screenshots because i wasn't a forum user. Bare with me here. Oh and keep in mind i was playing with huge armies.

I don't remember the specifics of the battle (who?, where?, when?, why?), but I'll give you the basic gist. A full stack army surprised one of my cities which was only garrisoned by some guys with sticks (around 4 units including a general). I had only my next turn to round up around 4-5 low-med level units as reenforcement. I'll be honest with you. This was way back when i still saved and reloaded often like a spoiled brat (I don't do so anymore), so i lost the battle a lot of times. Basically i tried to hold the walls and hurry my reinforcements, but every time the enemy stormed the walls and raped my peasants before my enforcements even arrived.

So i decided to turtle in the square and hold 2 streets while my backup arrived (they had to sprint all the way across the map to make it in time). Using my awesome strategery skillz, i was able to rout a big chunk of their army. My guys were constantly routed too, but they had nowhere to run (haha suckers). Suddenly, my general fell, and i thought "Well, that's it, I'm done for" (he was my only cavalry unit). But i decided to stick around and see what happens. My spear militia was holding the streets while my peasant archers peppered the back. Slowly they ran out of arrows, and my militia dwindled down to near nothing. The enemy still outnumbered me, but i wasn't giving up without a fight. It was urban chaos i tell you! You should have seen those brave little peasants drop their bows and charge the enemy spearmen with their butter knives as i zoomed into the battle. There was lots of stabbing, yelling, dying and repeated animations. Eventually all my other units died and i was left with 7 peasants fighting 11 trained spearmen, all covered in blood (yes i remember the number to this day). A lesser man would have given up at this point, BUT NOT I! Those brave little hobos had the hearts of knights i tell you. 7-10, 5-8, 3-7.... i was literally on the edge of my seat yelling at my computer.... 2-6 ..... my god, my little troopers were doing it!... 2-4, 2-3... 2-2! ...at this point it looked like 2 duels in the center of the city square.... suddenly one of my guys is facing 2 spearmen!
    ......

    *Clink* StaB! LUNGE!

...... AND HE KILLS THEM! HEROIC VICTORY !

yea it was pretty pimping .

The total number of soldiers in the battle numbered about 2000 and there was literally one guy left standing, covered from head to toe in gore. Too bad they didn't give me the screen where you can promote a guy to a general, 'cus i would have made that peasant my heir (He probably died from exhaustian and too many wounds)
    Last man standing...
