well, i have installed this game, after years and years... what patches do i have to install? are there some mod for this game?

Interesting timing, I just installed it today also.. haha... but the only patches I found require the Ace Expansion as well as Pacific Fighters in a combined installation. Plus, they're all incremental , so that means 5 different patches on top of each other. Heh, it's kind of ridiculous, really.

There are mods which add different missions . aircraft , campaigns , dynamic campaigns etc. Unfortunately the one site I remember has added a subscription to download the files and everything due to the cost for keeping the site up etc.

damn, campaign is just for nazi or soviets... i want the CORSAIR!! the Zero and the P-51!

You need pacific fighters for these things

I got my copy in some stupid ubisoft box set (that wasn't so stupid after all, cause it included Lock-On, also)

But yeah if you get ahold of PF, it's got zeros and p51's at least, can't remember what all else (especially since they release so many addons/patches with different planes that with a full install I have no idea what came from where)

LOL tell me about it, by now I must have logged 10 hours behind the stick and I can now barely shoot down a rookie stuka 1v1 with a mig-3 without crashing first or running out of ammo

The best air combat game, I think.

BF109 and P51D, can't go wrong. I have the game sitting right here, but I need to get Forgotten Battles (I have the Ace expansion pack and Pacific Fighters.) It's realistic, but I generally turn down the settings a bit for some arcade fun. Bombing cities is great, as is starting missions 100 feet off the ground with nuke-armed bombers.

i m doing campaign with luftwaffe... killed 6 soviet aircraft + 1 hurricane.. awarded with iron cross 2nd grade, promoted to lieutenant

Heard a lot about this game. Is it playable with just keyboard and mouse?

Yes, but extremely difficult. I've tried playing wtihout a joystick and I could only shoot down a plane if I spawned right behind the plane at 50 metres. Unless there is a mod which allows u to control the cockpit with a mouse like in BF1942.

IMO it's extremely difficult anyway. Massive props to these guys that they were able to keep track of what their squad was doing, not to mention what the enemies were doing.... let alone be able to actually hit the enemy planes !

I am a great mouse-pilot. I prefer it to joystick any day, but only the Battlefield series has let me do it properly.

as for IL-2, you can pick up the game on the cheap now. Throw in a decent joystick (make sure the stick rotates left/right for yaw control) and you'll still be paying less than for a new game - and it's hours of fun.

Used to play online but unfortunately I only FB + Ace and Pacific Fighters.. you need the latest expansion to play online with the majority of people, 1946 I think its called.

The game was great but online I could never keep track of enemy aircraft, little black dots are not my forte.

15 kills in 3 battles.. i m using the BF-109G2.. awarded with :
-Iron cross 2nd class
-Iron cross 1st class
-German cross in gold

promoted to Oberleutnant! YAY!

Heh, that's pretty dang good... what realism settings are you flying with?

Every time I try to play a campaign I'm lucky to shoot down one or two planes on the first mission before running out of ammo and/or getting shot to pieces :\

Incidentally the last mission I played said "Mission Complete" before we even engaged the enemy... at this point should I just turn around and go home? My squad mates tended to continue the engagement, even though we were grossly outnumbered.. doesn't make any sense to me :\
