    Icon9 Having trouble opening BC

I have installed BC but can not open the game. Double clicking on
the desktop icon only flashes the little black Dos window for a split
second, then nothing. If I change the "Target" or "Start in" fields, it opens
the vanilla M2TW or tells me address not valid. I have tried installing
BC alone in D: (C: full) and in M2TW but always the same. Other mods running fine. Any help and/or advice before my sanity departs?
    Thank you very much ... (BC v 1.05, M2TW v 1.2)

I'm gonna assume you installed BC correctly?

Go into Prog Files/Sega/M2TW/BC and click the launch bat. Anything happen?

Hi. I assume so too... Clicking on bat gives me a flash again.
Install 1: BC to D:\. Shortcut target D:\Broken Crescent\bc_launch.bat and Start in as D:\. Then it opens vanilla M2TW with DOS(?) address D:\>medieval2.exe @bc.cfg.
Install 2: BC to D:\Prog Files\SEGA\M2TW. Shortcut target D:\Prog Files\SEGA\M2TW\bc_launch.bat and Start in as D:\Prog Files\SEGA\M2TW. This gives me a flash again. If I change the Start in to just D:\ it opens vanilla as above.
I have seen a few other threads battling with the same flashes when trying to launch. My Stainless Steel and Clouds Across Europe did exactly the same.
I had to install them to D:\ alone, as opposed to in D:\Prog Files\etc and change the Start in to D:\. Now they are running fine. Did not work for BC though.
Took me ages to figure that out. Anyway, hope you see the problem.
    Thanks again.

OK, i'm assuming you always install to D rather than C? When you downloaded did you get a "BC launch shortcut" on your desktop. It is normally automatically generated. Let me know if you've followed this:

Ok. Have you done the following? (follow to the letter!!)

Install M2TW. Install the patch 1.2 (make sure it matches the same language version as your original) do the same for patch 1.3 (choosing the wrong lang version can mess up your installation).

THen download and run BC from here:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=140857

make sure you select the right language version when prompted.

if you have vista, make sure to download the VISTA FIX from the same post on the above thread.

Then download and apply patch 1.05 here:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=142288

there are another 4 fixes in this thread. I recommend applying them too (if your not sure about how to apply them then just ask)

I also recommend one final defrag before running the game (it certainly makes BC run quicker for me)

If you have and the game is still not working i recommend a full clean install (it seems to do the trick for most people). Unistall M2TW and then go into C/Program Files/Sega and delete the sega folder. Then type "regedit" into search/run and delete any entries which have "Sega/M2TW" under the software headings (delete your save games too!). Then i recommend a defrag.

This clears any remnants from your pc. Then do the above starting with installing M2TW. If this is too laborious, try reinstalling BC. If it doesnt help do a fresh clean install of everything.
This will normally place a desktop launch on your desktop. Now i've recently unistalled BC (part of reinstalling my windows), so i'm trying to remember the target line for BC, for me, it was something like C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval 2 Total War\...then the mod BC (maybe someone will see this and cut and paste theirs).

Again i'm assuming my C drive is equivalent to your D drive, and your Dvd Rom is located elsewhere?

Are you sure that you are installing the mod in the game directory. In another words, make sure you change the BC mod installer path to your game directory path. By default BC should install in C:/program files/sega/MTW2/ but if your vanilla MTW2 is on D:/ or other drives it will not work. It probably sounds stupid to even suggest this, but you would be surprised how many people had this problem

I'll answer your q's first: 1. All games are on D. 2. Please refer to my earlier reply. The default BC icon has those two addresses depending on where I install to. Both not working. 3. These also indicate that install was changed from default to go to D. (Thanks, S, I doublechecked) 4. DvD Rom is on E. I have followed your instructions twice before posting plus a week of forum surfing. I can't get BC 1.0 to work, maybe 1.05 will do the trick but the link for 1.05 opens a German Upload.net. I can't read a word. What happens next? M2TW now v1.3. Thanks for patience. Mea culpa, I suspect.

I believe so. My directory reads like this:

    D:\Video Games\Total war\Medieval II Total War

With Broken Crescent installed into that.

It works! The fatal error fix did not do the trick, though.
A word of advice to those having problems: don't assume anything. I assumed my vanilla M2TW was a clean one. Ha-ha. Turns out a mod changed a few files. Reinstalled everything, like the steps above from Heinz, and voila! The new link for BC 1.05 patch is http://files.filefront.com/bcpatch10.../fileinfo.html.
Thanks everybody. Now, to the East...

Casey Ryback from Under Seige II was assumed dead on that train by the terrorists. They paid for that mistake! If there aint no body, Casey aint dead.
