Ubisoft Steals 'No-CD Crack' To Fix Rainbow 6: Vegas 2

Ok, I have not seen any threads related to this, so I want to just let you guys know.

The story: Ubisoft, takes a no-cd crack from the pirate team RELOADED, and makes it into a patch for Rainbow Six Vegas 2, then claims it is theirs.

Haha, it's really funny that Ubisoft are closing all their forums and cleaning this up. It's too bad you can't hide from the internet.

Read about this a few days ago.

It's rather ironic that they have to use what they're trying to prevent to fix the issues that arise from trying to prevent it in the first place? I think my brain just exploded trying to figure out if what I just said made any sense.

That's...uhhh....wow. I do like the people on forums shouting "Reloaded should sue!" though. Yeah Ubisoft may have stolen someone elses code, but that code was developed for the sole purpose of breaking the copy protection on their game.

Cracks arent illegal if you have the orginal.

Actually they are.
Cracks changes the code in order to bypass the CP, the code is copyrighted hence it's illegal.

As for the story.
I'm not surprised, it's the same with Mass Effect.
The No-cd actually fixes the game while the devs are still sucking on their thumbs trying to figure out how to fix the various problems, some of which are CP related.
Just shows how bad the CPs are these days.

Yeah but the only way to really break down piracy is making every game on 4 full blu-ray disks.... i for one dont want to download 200 gig.

I'd like to point out that just because the "click agree" contract says something doesn't mean it'll stand in a court of law(depending on the country). For instance I believe (might've been here or america) some games maker put in their little contract you aren't allowed to sell the game second hand. People did anyway and they got overruled. Anyway... I don't know that much in the area and certainly not enough to "actually" correct someone.

Actually they aren't crying.
The point is judging from the source in the OP is that Ubisoft has taken a strong stance against No-Cds, closing threads and banning members for talking about it and then all of the sudden Ubisoft use it themselfs which just raises a "WTF" sign over some members.
I think that's what people are upset about, not that they took Reloaded's crack.
I don't think Reloaded gives a damn, they are probably laughing their asses off at it.

Well, that's debatable. Since the CP itself skirts copyright law, and because there is no profit to be made off the crack (nor detriment to the profitability of the original product, at least by itself minus an illegal copy of the game) it seems to exist in a kind of gray area. I think most cracks are distributed with the provision that you may not actually use them, either, just learn from them how to modify your OWN game code to skirt CP.

Bah, you're right though, I mean, they pretty much are illegal, I'm just coming up with BS excuses
