    Default Quick Role Playing Question

Sorry if this has been answered ad nauseum, but I looked at the latest release thread and didn't see it in the RP section:

Are there recoverable items, such as a famous sword?

I read there are crowns, but can you take a faction's crown once you've taken their capital?

    thanks in advance

No if you conquer certan provinces your King will get crowned. Yes there is lots of transferable items you have to conquer certan city to achive that for example Jerusalem on crusade or Cairo

the muslims can get the 'sword of mohammed' if they capture a certain city on jihad. not sure which one though. there are some seriously cool relics out there. you just need to play long enough to find them.

open up the export_descr_ancillaries.txt file and check out all the cool guy you steal -er, recover- from various places.

I got the sword of Mohammed taking Baghdad from rebels on jihad. In fact I got several great, great traits from that one on vh/vh. Too bad on my latest Khwarz campaign I had to rush for it to get it before egypt then the ai jihaded palermo.. and did not attack it for 100 turns.

    Thanks for the answers everyone.

I really like the concept of not having a crown at the beg. of a game. At least this is the case with France.

Not at my personal PC, so I can't look at the file. Are there factions that begin with a crown? I would assume the larger factions would. Does the Holy Roman Empire?

This mod has become something really quite excellent since the last time I played it. No need to split time with my old love, which will remain nameless.

Every video game ever made puts you playing the role of a different person, I doubt you would like them at all if it was just you doing things that you normally do all day.

But this isn't role playing, this is nerding yourself to a whole new level with imaginary characters.Wowwww cannot believe that you even thought of that when you were writing your response...OWNED

Obliterate, your obviously a superior human being, who is the coolest person in the world.

Roleplaying =/= believing you are the character.

To me, it's playing with historical accuracy in mind, and with care for your family line.

But why am I arguing with a mean-spirited little hate monger that spews nonsense such as "OWNED" and craps on people and a game, while on game's said forum.

now go do something cool, and leave us to our RP discussion. Oh and your AAR will be a RP, whether you acknowledge it or not...

Thanks for the post, that was what I was looking for

In game you can aquire crowns, books and holy items. I have no intention of adding in swords, as I prefer the game to be role-played with a historical (as opposed to fantasy) aim in mind. I have also added in some new historical figures as ancillaries, as many important people are missing from the game and I like reading about such.

If there is anything that you think needs adding in though, let me know as happy to explore doing such.

btw if you were in the TWTA mod, I would give a different answer, as thats a fantasy setting and having such there would make sense.

    edit - meant Obliterate76
Last time I checked we were playing a medieval war game where I get to be a general/king. It may surprise you to discover that I am neither , so the game itself is a form of roleplay. How much depends on your imagination and goals you set yourself. Anybody can win against the Ai, so most players establish a set of house rules to make it more interesting, such as choosing not to ally with with muslims when playing a catholic faction.

Style of play is individual, and while I have opinions about those who prefer to play in a more arcade style, I would seek to voice such in a way that invites discussion, rather than argument.

    All
Its a friendly forum. If someone posts in manner likely to invite flames, that does not mean you have to respond in said manner.

I asked almost the same question some time ago, got this answer from Quark (he made this nice addition to the game I believe).

    Ancillary crown_scandinavia (Norway, Denmark)

Each crown is unique to the faction, ie scotland cannot get the crown of england. The main reason for this is the eight ancillary limit. I have thought about doing a crown of UK and allowing Scotland, England or Ireland get it, but its different for other regions, which don't have a natural grouping. The idea is that you have to work to achieve the bonus, and so capture historical regions to get the crown. I might do others, once KK gets around to doing 6.2, but would like to keep things historical (ie not make up crowns).

when roleplaying in a videogame you are not pretending to be someone else, you follow a character and determine their actions by their personality.

If you think you are the person you arent a good roleplayer, you need to have a distance between yourself and the character otherwise the character will look too much like you.

I played Neverwinter Nights online pretty much since its release, its a game that draws from D&D so lots of elves, dwarves, mages, etc. That learned me a lot about roleplaying.

The best roleplaying happens when you create a character that is not like yourself at all, to be able to understand someone unlike yourself is a great challenge that can help you grow as a person.

Heres a few things my characters where, all have little to nothing in common with me:

-A bitter Elven Necromancer looking for revenge.
-A brutish monster that relied on body language to express himself, he couldnt speak much.
-A smart mouthed and agile female thief.
-A young and inexperienced yet very powerfull sorceress.
-A half dragon with a heart of gold but looked hideous.
-A woman that married twice and had a split personality.

I first figured the woman with the split personality would be the biggest challenge when I created her, but it turns out that the brutish monster was the greatest challenge since he could barely speak, all his actions had to be described rather detailed and required quite some thought.

Yeah thats right. But well you choose for yourself how you want the charecters to be. It could be like yourself. I have played rpg's since baldurs gate/planescape torment/icewindale. Nothing beat those old ones. the newer one is all graphic and no depth.

I wouldnt mind a little more rpg elements in ss. But well it is not for everyone.

Obliterate76 it would be wise if you stop posting threads designed to flame/offend, such things are in breach of the rules of the forum, let alone an act of disrepect for your fellow gamers.

true a character can be somewhat like yourself but its good to keep the setting in mind as well.

If you play a character like yourself in a medieval setting you need to keep in mind that your upbringing would be very different, as well as what you would have learned, etc.
