    Default Jesus Camp

Found this video/documentary on YouTube. This is just part 1 of 9:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD2Hyiitpys

I watched all nine over the course of three days, and found this relatively disturbing. The fact that this woman is running a camp and literally, brainwashing these kids about radical christianity at a young age is appalling. I am by no means anti-religion, but this type of fanaticism and radicalism is ridiculous. She runs this camp like a cult.

Should this be allowed in America? Is this type of fanatical brainwashing (or at least it seems to be to me) of religion to young children oppressing them to the rest of society?

Well Im not an American so i cant answer that question. However in my opinion I am also appalled at this women and things like this should not be allowed in any society.

Children should never be forced or brainwashed into a religion, it is something they need to decide for themselves. I was brought up in a very lightly Christian family yet I made my own decision about what my religious beliefs should be (Athiest) due to the fact that i wasnt brainwashed throughout my childhood.

To an extent i imagine that it is an oppression of their freedom of chioce and (prehaps arguably) an oppression of their education.

You would think that in America, everyone, no matter how young or old, should have the right to choose their religion on their own. Sure parents can guide them, but ultimately it is up to them.

Of course how far parents should/are allowed to guide the kids will always be disputable.

Of course it will be. I don't think it's anything that a government possibly could (or even should attempt to) legislate effectively.

The sad thing is, wasnt America founded on freedom of religion and to be a secular society?

Edit - I find it particularly disturbing in the 2nd video when she says that she want Christian kids to have the same devotion (enough to kill for their religion) as extreemist Muslims.

I had an experience once with a cousin of mine. I was depressed about this brutal heartless world we live in, and she told me I should "Go on a walk." Inquiring as to what she meant, she informed me. Well a group of men take you out into the country for several days, you have no TV, no Radio, no influence from the outside world and they convert you to their religion.

Had I been a brain dead sheep like individual, I could very well be a preacher of the gospel of DUH!
Found out later my younger cousin (her brother) had went on a walk, and had spend most his time hiding out in the bathroom.

Personally I love freedom, but when people use their freedom to inhibit another's (young inexperienced minds) It pisses me off.

Makes me sick to see poor kids brainwashed by some crazy pastors. Especially when they call stuff or people evil for the dumbest reasonsFor example this video, the subject who they are calling the devil is rather hilarious!

Shows how uninformed people are. Harry Potter is a book, a fantasy book. Not real. Reading Harry Potter, if you so choose, is a form of entertainment. How can religion dictate what you do for your own enjoyment? Seriously, Harry Potter didn't even exist in the time of Jesus and the creation of the Bible. Who is this woman to say that Harry Potter is evil and anti-christianity?

The stupidity of people like her amaze me.

Well, it is a bit disturbing. I think that the kids who have the ability to see thru the BS will come out just fine.
In answer to your questions 1. Yes this should be allowed in america, it is the land of the free, not the land of "you can be free if it doesn't offend anyone else"
    2. No. It is your children who do not go (or are brought) to this type of 'church' that have the right and will to ignore anyone or anything they want.
The very fact that you are worried about this is reason to teach your kids any way you choose. Parents will always be number one, even bad parents in childrens eyes. When you take the teacher out of parenting and allow TV or a preacher to raise your kids than you are at fault.
    just my 2 cents

I see and understand your view. The only one I question is #1. If it is the land of the free, aren't those kids losing their freedom to choose their religion for themselves due to the brainwashing?

However, I do take into account and hope that the majority of the kids see through the BS, like you said.

Damn that harry potter the little satanist warlock..........:hmmm:

All this time I thought he was a fictional character in a children's book.

I have a idiot 1/2 sister who thinks the same way as that idiot lady in the video. She's got an excuse, "Ursula" (see little mermaid sea witch) my stepmother has corrupted her mind.

lol, it soudns like she's pretty awful.(dialup'ed. It'd take me a day and a half to see the vids)

I hate people who take religion that freakin' seriously. Just don't kill anybody, respect the spouses of others, don't steal, don't surround yourself with embicles, PRAY TO GOD and live like Jesus, and you'll make it to heaven. THis woman's one of the embicles to avoid.

Hmm, how dare she tell them they should have the "devotion" to kill for their religion!? Christains are supposed to do the exact opposite- allow themselves to be martyred if need be while spreading the good news of christ peacefully, gracefully asking God for protection and help like the apostles. Read the freakin' bible fat ho. Also she's a bit of a hypocrite in that right- she's fat, she's not respecting her body, the temple of the spirit god gave her, what is she doing lecturing children about harry potter?

Cause she really believes in the stuff I guess.

I always thought speaking in tongues was a sign of being possessed by the devil, though. Weird how they encourage it.

Harry Potter is an enemy of God? A fictional character? ok, yeah, this woman is off her rocker big time, but unfortunately stuff like this is not uncommon in the USA, well, at least here in the south.

I went on a weekend retreat (forced to go) like this. Thank God it was only for four days...

Anyway we stayed up until 2 AM every morning singing praise and worship. Well, they stayed up. I curled up and slept in a corner because the lady at my retreat was a nutcase also.

At one point in the camp my councillor broke down weeping, telling us all about her sinful life and shortcomings with her family...to 15 and 16 year olds.

It was creepy. And kind of cult-ish. We were given two meals a day. They said we were to be fasting. Fasting. A forced fast. hmm..

This is what happens when the lay people get too involved with the church. Retreats and camps like this should be run by level-headed preachers and priests.

"But the kids might get molested"

Yeah? I doubt it. A small minority of priests are pedos and it might happen. It just might, but I think that it's better than letting these whackjobs do it.

"Harry Potter is an enemy of God" ?

    "Should be killed" ?

    Ya kidding?

Having been to Christian camps myself when I was a kid (though nothing resembling this) I am curious to what would happen if you told them to F off, and I mean f off in that manner not in a more polite way. Would you be punished in a way? Is that an occurence that could not happen?

When I was from the age of 12-16 I would behave at school, at home etc, but when people tried to force me into organized things on my spare time, id not be very cooperative to say the least.
