    Default Easier Faction?

Which is easier to play as in the Grand Campaign, Venice or the Holy Roman Empire? I've heard that both of these factions can be difficult. Which one is the easiest, overrall?

    Thank You!

Venice is difficult at first but once you break through the barriers, their the funnest faction, Imo.

I could never really get into HRE.

Neither of those is the best choice if you're looking for an easy game. Scotland, Moors, Spain, Russia, etc. all make for easier games. If you're set on one of the two though, Venice is easier because you can have success against eastern european armies and not anger the pope at the same time, and you have islands to fall back on to boot.

I find that England is one of the easiest factions, then probably Egypt.

Personally I think the HRE is easier... (Now I'll say that it is my favorite faction....) so Im prob just a bit biased. But you have more oppurtunities to expand and if you do so carefullyyou....you can be in a much more secure position then if youre Venice

I did HRE, I think it's hard, your surrounded by multiple factions, you have a low pope reputation, and you have many regions (I think it's hard because it's to hard to control them all), Venice seems to be okay.

I go with Denmark or Russia

Have to disagree there. Russians can be pretty difficult, especially if the hordes pop up on your turf. Same as the Turks, only you get to butt heads with the Byzantines, Egypt, Sicily, and fend off Crusaders.

Spain can be a bit stressful dealing with Moors, Portugal, and France on either fronts.

Moors and Scotland have it pretty easy on your list.

HRE is probably one of the more difficult factions. You begin the campaign completely surrounded my seemingly friendly Catholics: France, Milan, Denmark, Poland, and Venice. Grab an alliance with at least one and hope the AI holds it, it's not long before you're juggling garrisons to fend off invasions from every direction while trying to punish Milan for annoying you!

England is turning out to be the easiest. Easily stomp out Scotland, ally with HRE/Milan and squeeze France out. Once you get Paris and York, you're groovy.

anything on the east side of the map are hard due to the fact of mongol/timurid invasion. anythng on the far west or north west are easiest due to safe positioning.

Leave it to the modder to perfect the works of the paid developers for no profit at all.

the two easiest faction is probably Moors and England.

England is obvious, there isnt' too many surprise situations. no one will come to the isles. just kill the Scots and then expand at will.

Moors is pretty easy as long as your handy with javlin cavalry. once you take the Iberian it's easy as hell. they're a lot richer than England and their troop dynamics is better (but can be trickier)

Other easy factions are Scotland / Denmark / Spain

Well, Portugal will go after Ireland if you give them a chance (and some money)

@attilavolciak07: how'd you take Milan in the 1st turn?

Denmark is also easy their melee fighters pwn all the heavy dismounted knights and other infantry, their only lack is spears, but they have got some nice cavalry to compensate

Unless you edit the descrstat file you should go for venice, although the begin is indeed hard.

    Not the Venice please.
    Those greedy backstabing bankers.
They brutally sacked Constantinople in 1204. Its because of that act that Byzantine Empire was destroyed and Constantinople was sacked in 1453.
    Anybody but them.

Well I would say Venice is easier because of their superior Italian Spearmen and Pavise Crossbowman during the beginning. If you were really agressive you could probably take HRE out with ease. Their armies are usually that of numbers, not good infantry (until late game). Just remember to ally with the Danes and the French if that's the route you choose.

They did it to themselves when they attacked Venetians and seized their property in Constantinople--talk about greed. It was about time they got a taste of their own medicine. In essence Venice was taking back what was rightful theirs. Hate them or love them, you have to give them some credit since they provided the Byzantines with a navy.

to be accurate they provided the french crusaders with a navy for which the french said the byzantines will pay...

besides that you cannot claim something that is rightfully yours if it is some 2000km away. of course you can, but you should not. that would have saved humankind from a lot of troubles

I can't say anything about HRE, but Venice is easy to mismanage in the beginning, but after that, it becomes a lot easier. Your starting position is very vulnerable because it's all over the place. It's easy to overextend and have no money if you fight wars on all sides. So be careful not to be at war with everybody and their uncle at the same time (Milan, Sicily, Byzantines, Hungary, HRE, Poland, Egypt, Papal states, war with any and all of them is always likely as Venice) until you're ready. The upside of the early period is that you get decent units from cities with the Italian spear militias. Cheap as garrisons as well as allowing you to have a better city:castle ratio!

Northern Italy is very rich and should earn you oodles of cash. If you can take out Milan without getting excommunicated, you'll be set for a long and successful reign. Sacking Constantinopel is also very nice Crusades are easy to join, as you should have a decent form of naval transport.

I think Venice is easy, you just have to attack everyone in the first three turns!
Milan is really weak in th beginning, they have a small starting military, you quickly attack them, I took Milan in the fuirst turn then took genoa in the third.
there you already control n italy, just watch for the germans, they always attakc venice!

Buy Bologna from them early with an alliance and some money, they won't attack you for a while, unless you make them real mad. They always focus on France then get blindsided by Poland and eventually lose everything in 20 turns. Problem solved of them trying to take Venice

    interesting, ill try that!
Its good because I noticed bologna is usually piled with fortifacations and troops, but buying cities seems wrong to me.
just like that superpower 2 game, have you heard of it, you could buy a us state for a fixed price, but that seems wrong!
