i get a CTD whenever i edit the EDU

ok, so i switched the schiltrom ability to shield_wall on most of the spearmen units in the EDU, but now the game wont start...
it CTD's after it starts loading the game...

what am i doing wrong?

ps. im using the search and replace function in notepad to change the abilites so im not doing it by hand.

pps. this has also happened before when making small changes...

Did you try switching the schiltrom to spear wall, for only one spearmen unit, to see if it works at all? Maybe spearmen don't support spear wall? :hmmm:

Also any typo or wrong spacing might cause a CTD! You gotta be extra careful when modding EDU file..

well, the english levy spearmen already have the shield_wall ability... so it should work...

ill try changing it one unit at a time then... but i think theres something else at work here...

especially since i actually have to delete the EDU file and replace it with an old one... just changing back the values wont work...

delete whole first line of your EDU and save. Then try again.

well... theres a couple of alternatives...

either its this:

wich is the first line on the first entry in the code

or its this:

; SS v6.1 with RR, RC 1.5 and SSTC

but thats got the exclusion mark infront of it so it should be ignored by the game and any scripts

alternatively its the empty space further up...

however, i dont see how this makes a differance since they are all the same when i change the file (i just change one schiltrom to shield_wall remember?)

ps. are you actually well versed in text editing for M2TW or are you just randomly trying to help?

Hahahahaa..well, this IS the bug reports section!

Just to let you know..I tested the templar spearmen for shield wall ability and no crash, in fact it works great!

What you gotta do is change this entry:

formation 1.0, 0, 2.0, 2.0, 5, square, schiltrom

with this one:

formation 1.0, 0, 2.0, 2.0, 5, square, shield_wall

thats... exacty... what i did...

*sigh*

im gonna uninstall SS 6.1 and install it without any other submods (and that includes RR and BYS) just to see if it will work then... if it does then its one of my submods thats being picky.... (probarbly BYS since the log file refers to a failed script)

uninstalled (well, deleted cos the uninstall.exe didnt work) SS6.1 and all submods.
installed SS 6.0 + 6.1 and tried changing schiltrum to shieldwall... it worked...

so it must have been one of the submods...

hopefully not SSTC since i really want that one (but if it was it was probarbly something to do with the animations, in wich case ill make an extensive investigation into the matter to see if i can fix it)
