New to the game, a few questions

Hi all,

I recently bought this great game, and being relatively new (I had MTW1 but only played battles and never played it much in general) to the genre I have a few questions:

1. Why do people put archers infront of their main army? Wouldnt it be more logical to put them behind heavy infantry so they can fire over their heads and won't be charged by enemy cavalry? :hmmm:

2. Is the longbowman box viable? I tried this out in custom battle by putting 4 units of longbowmen (1 facing forward, 2 facing the sides, 1 facing the rear with stakes in front of them all, making a box) and it worked quite well, however i tried it with just the archers and was wondering if it would be good as assistance to your main army?

3. What is +rep mean? I've been reading some posts here and people go +rep all the time?

1: People put archers infront of their main army so they can fire more but bring them back behind their lines when the enemy gets close.

2: I have never really used the box with stakes, but it seems to work, just have superior archers.

3: +rep is when someone clicks that little green + below your name and it give you some reputation, when you have some it gives you a ring, like you can see near my name and after you get a few rings, you get a little crown that represents a few rings, if you understand lol.

But what do the little rings and crowns do? Is it just so people can see that you're a veteran?

EDIT: Oh also one more question, I tried to play online and after I made my account and tried to log in it said Invalid CD-Key???

I bought my version in the shop and it wasn't used or pirated, can anyone help??

Don't know about the Online problem, I suggest going to this forum: M2TW Tech Support. Search for "invalid CD-key" and "online issues" etc and see if any threads address it, and if they don't then make a new thread and provide all the proper specifications of the error and any other things that might be important to a tech support person such as DxDiag.

As for the rings and crowns, it just symbolizes a certain amount of reputation accumulated. You start out with a scale icon, and once you get reputation you get a ring, and then more rings as it adds up, determined by parameters set in the admin panel. Multiple rings turn into a crown and add more rings similar to adding an X in front of the general I - IX of roman numerals, though I'm not sure if it represents 5 or 10 rings, I believe it is 5. The exact values for how much reputation it takes to change the mouse-over text only the admins know but they aren't that important. You can only give reputation to another user once you have at least 50 posts, but you should really read the FAQ about that for the best information.

Ok I can answer your questions if you don't know still.
1 - putting archers in front allows your bowmen to have direct aim at the approaching enemy also if an enemy gets to close your bowmen will run and if you set a infantry unit behind them they will be running to safety

2 - rep already explained

3 - thats actually a great idea ALSO putting the steaks in front of the gate or a crumbling wall works quite well

He might have quoted my post and so the font carried over, but it if you aren't careful and you're using the editor which doesn't show tags, if you add enough spaces it switches from the "Book Antiqua" I use back to the default "Verdana".
