Altough the mormons consider themselves christians, many other christians consider them as a cult and do not legitamately recognize them as christians. If they are'nt christians, what are they?

Consider yourself conservative? Five Conservative Classics
Didn't this get discussed a few weeks ago?
The Church has recently addressed two issues that some other churches have concerns with - namely our teachings on the nature of the Godhead and of our assertion that revelation still continues as it did of old. Here is the video of one of those addresses - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tz3rggCnhxQ

Mormons are Christians. They believe in the idea that Jesus Christ is the savior, and for all intensive purposes that makes you a Christian. The differences between how God is defined and nuances in teachings are widespread between Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican, and Protestant denominations.
You are all equally deluded![]()
Mormons are not anymore than religious people who hold views contrary to the teachings of the Gospel and therefore are not and never can be called Christian.
I think this video might sway your vote in the direction of cultists...
After I watched it,to be Christian don't you have to believe that God is the only "supreme" being? And that God was not "divine" in the being and we all can be equal to God after death? Plus, when in the hell did God adopt Satanas his son???

Holding anger is a poison. It eats you from the inside. We think that hating is a weapon that attacks the person who harmed us. But hatred is a curved blade. And the harm we do, we do to ourselves.

Yah, that video creeped me the hell out too when I saw it.
And I'm a member.
The video wasn't in fact banned by the Church. It is part of a famous Anti-Mormon video called the Godmakers, which was put out by a few of the more 'zelous' evangelical churches (Not bashing you guys, my uncle is a member of the Alliance church and is a very kind, loving man (though I think he's asserted to my parents that we're all going to hell)).
To say the least, most of them don't use the video any more due to the fact of it's embarrasing nature. The reason being is that most of its sources were either unlisted, or extremely biased, and it is seen as having shoddy reaserch by most scholars.
A few of the more outrageous claims include:
A secret sexual ceremony in the temple, of which I've never heard of. If it exists then I must say that I'm looking forward to having a good time.
That if anyone reveals their temple covenants a secret Mormon 'hit squad' will be dispatched to liquidate you.
The belief that God was born to a polygamist god is not canon, and the only mention of it that I've ever heard of is from this video. Their is speculation that God was once a man, even theories put forth by the general presidency, but even that isn't canon, and it is left up to the common member to decide for themselves.
The truth is is that we don't know how God created us, only that he is the father of us.
The belief that there were 'neutrals' in the War in Heavan was one put forth by a few members in the past till the Prophet of Church (not the current one) came forth and said that no one was neutral. That all had to choose to follow the Father and Jesus Christ, or Satan.
Those who were valiant in the war in heaven are not born exlcusively to Mormon families, but have been, are, and will be scattered among men to be leaders of their time. God inspires all men to be good, and some of his most valiant spirits would have most likely been men not of my faith or a Caucasian background. These include people like the Buddha, Confucious, Mohammed, early Christian writers/leaders, Ghandi, and others who have been a light unto the world.
Joseph Smith has never been set on the same level as Jesus Christ. He honour the man for our belief that he was the first prophet of the restoration of God's church, but we do not set him on the same level as God. To quote John Taylor, third president of the Church. "Joseph Smith has done more, save Jesus Christ himself, for the salvation of man."
Both.
A "cult", as a noun referring to a group, is simply a group with specific religious rituals and rites, or if one uses it as an object noun, it means the rituals employed by a religious group. At least, in the original sense of the term during the Greco-Roman period, that is what it meant.
Both but mostly, as the cartoon has surely shown me, a cult.
Though almost as crazy as what I have been told about Scientology.
Worst part of trying to express a point is when someone says what you said better and gets praised.
Ive posted this many times but its one of my favorites
Proof that Mormons are the true church.
Hey do you think Romney would win Utah?
I have nothing against the womens movement. Especially when Im walking behind it.
It might not be wise to judge the Church on such sources
A cult is a group that follow a specific personality or leader usually, anything from inappropriate patriotism, to Marxism to all Christian churches could be defined as a cult.
Cult is one of those words that is used to get create emotional reaction more than actual thinking.
It's a strange thing, as a Latter-day Saint, to some times see certain accusations about our beliefs made that are about as far from the truth as you could imagine.

Like what? Is it not true that your Book of Mormon claims that the Hebrews sailed to America and set up a prosperous civilization here? (Despite lack of archeological evidence)
Does it not also claim a genetic relationship between Semites and Native Americans? (Which does not exist)
Does it not also state that Negros are the descendants of Cain? (Thus being corrupted and evil)
Even if you are very nice and devout people your religious founder was a nut who took advantage of the uneducated. Why not just spare yourself the nonsensical book of Mormon and become a normal Protestant/Catholic?
Actually Negros are descended from Noah's son Ham.
The story goes that Ham was originally "white" but he was cursed when he saw his father Noah "naked". This was an expression that meant Ham basicallyed his mother. When Noah found out what had taken place, he called upon God to curse Ham, then Ham suddenly became "dark". This happened after the Great Flood btw. So in actuallity, the Bible does say the "Negroes" are cursed, but only
heads would believe that.

Is that kind of like the New International Version or the New American Version? What did they do with good old fashioned King James's Version?
How many chicken gizzards does a preacher have to expunge from his church members before he reaches sainthood?
Versions, versions, everybody has a versionMy kinda religious
rhetoric. Personally I'm converting from christianity to goofballizm........ following the main stream sheep herd I am........... Not.
I feel the need to add one thought.......
It doesn't matter what version we use, or what religion we are, when we having been enlightened by the masters...... Confucius, Buda, Mohammad, Christ, etc......still refuse to hearken unto their wisdoms
Love One Another, Have Compassion For the Weak, Share Willing of Our Substance With Those Less Fortunate, etc........
Christians........... Your kidding me, maybe people should emulate their master.
Thompson45cal. at least I make an attempt at it, unlike others.

Today I'm beginning a campaign of self-restraint... so I'm not gonna touch this one with a 10 foot pole.Even if you are very nice and devout people your religious founder was a nut who took advantage of the uneducated. Mormons: Cultists or Christians?
As far as I'm concerned the rest of Christiandom is comprised of cultists too -- they just happen to have more adhearants and money.
They are a Christian cult.
