    Default Dreadful Generals!!!

    Hey all,
I have read that generals with dread are the best ones to have as they tend to make the people you are fighting flee quicker. So with that in mind I mainly keep one or two main generals that stay with my armies till they die so my question is who do you make your generals? As in do you keep it with the faction leader and faction heir or just a family member or whatever? The trick with that is if you keep it those with the faction heir and faction leader all their other children will get really bad traits as well and I dont want tons of bad family members running around. What are your tricks?

The other family members(I dont recurit generals) I send to crusade and keep them all chivialry since they help with castle growth.

Dread is much better than chivalry in battle.

For Dread, your enemies flee sooner, meaning your units are in combat for a shorter time, meaning less casualties.

For Dread, you execute prisoners, which is good if you have like 500.

Chivalry is often wasted since a 10 star chivalry general is likely to have at least 7 command stars. Command already increases morale, having both of the morale bonuses is just overkill (not even peasants flee under a 10 star command general)

In sieges, Chivalry is alot less useful since with high dread you might be able to route enemies on the walls before they even get the whole unit on the walls. With chivalry, they might get the whole unit on the wall, resulting in them not feeling so scared anymore.

Also, guard the plaza completely negates the use of chivalry

Thanks obbob, I know how all that works and such I am just deciding which family member I want to start the dreaded bloodline, i.e. family heir/faction leader or another family member.

I think chivalric generals don't like being governed by a dreaded guy, but a dreaded general doesn't care about that. So if you also want Chivalry, I'd say get Dread for those generals who won't become king. I hope that helps.

Still, if you want your town to grow into a large city, chivalric fella will be better than the dreaded one

Yes that's why I want chivalric knights. It helps growth (0,5% per chivalry), which is basically the only way to get a fortress to citadel nowadays. Public Order is also affected positively.

Though, I'm not sure what dread does other than causing fear in your enemy.

They're way better at keeping order in cities, but since order isn't a problem anyways, it's just down to the battles with Dread.

actually, i kinda roleplay it as france right now... so i bring almost all my generals in the main army (and when i get cash enough ill split them between two armies)
and when im not at war and rebuilding my countrys battered economy i usually put the generals back into their citys and such
addicted modder... but crap at it

Well, it seems sticking to be True Neutral does not have any profit in the Medieval times

I was asking about a pure war general, I know a chivalric general is best for cities and castles. Thanks 4 all the input though.

It all depend on what I feel like and what faction I am playing as. If generals have a lot of chiv I go that way and the same goes for dread.
I do however mostly try to keep as few dreaded generals as possible so if it is a neutral general I would prefere more chiv.
But dread is alot cooler in battle.

Really? The images of dread may be cooler, but my enemy armies tend to run too fast, even with chivalric knights... I'd love to have them stay longer, hence I now play on hard. Makes it harder yes, but whenever I get their captain general....

You may be fighting a high dread or very high command enemy general, or perhaps you're not using a general yourself. If it's happening with rebel armies or armies without a general, then you just need to learn to play better .

Yeah, also the generals dialogue changes. Dread Generals' voices can get extremely annoying, especially when all your generals are dread.

high dread can get pretty annoying though.

often i spend a lot of effort taking some heavy cav in the perfect charging position, only to have the militia's that are tying up the dismounted knights all of a sudden route the knights

"do not doubt my methods, they work"

I laughed when I first heard it.

    Or my general before battle:

"Swiftly or slowly, I care not, just kill them!"

Chivalry gives most important bonus in game - high growth rate. Money ,money, money. You can afford to build anything and have huge cassualties and you do not have to sack enemy every two turns. Personaly i do not like short battle and I want to kill enemy on battlefield so I go chivalarious. But with new bonuses for AI on VH/VH makes no difference how dread/chi your general is (3 star + morale bonus) you are always in disadvantage becuse is hard to get stars. So chi in this case have more payoffs - more morale for your troops and bigger income.
