Simple question really. I'm in the mood for a WW2 after watching Saving Private Ryan 3 times in the last 3 days. Although, I'm not sure how long this mood will last so should I get HoI2 if I'm still really enjoying EU3?
An easy yes, HOI and Paradox' titles other than EU are in my opinion far and away their best games.

Yes. It is a very good game.
Probably not.
Are you willing to sit through the almighty learning curve, again.
I have it.
I just keep installing and uninstalling it over and over again.
Hmm.. to get Victoria or not. That is the question.
According to the Theory of War, which teaches that the best way to avoid the inconvenience of war is to pursue it away from your own country, it is more sensible for us to fight our notorious enemy in his own realm, with the joint power of our allies, than it is to wait for him at our own doors.
- King Edward III, 1339
I didn't find EU3 learning curve that steep. So it won't be like putting in huge effort all over again. Although, I had the same problem as you. I got the HoI2 demo and I didn't really know what was going on so I was installing and uninstalling it constantly. In truth though, the demo seems to have nothing the real game has.
The main reason I asked the question wasn't because I wanted to know if HoI2 was a good game but because I wanted to know is there much point buying it now and playing EU3 at the same time?
Yes, get the expansions, too.

You buy the Anthology you get HOI, HOI2, Doomsday, Armageddon and a cool little medal. The only thing I enjoyed out of it all.
Keep in mind, there are some very annoying bugs, or just design issues in fact, that piss us off.

HOI2 is one of their best games, get it.

If you are interested in WWII you would be crazy not to![]()
Except in Doomday things always get out of control!!!
Seriously, the only historical outcome that would definately come out is invasion of Poland and invasion of China; other than that things always got mess up in my game (Japan only sneak attack US in 1 out 10 of my games, US would declare war against USSR when USSR declare war against Germany, something like this).
HOI2 is probably the paradox game with the silliest of expansions.

OK having recently read about this game I am contemplating getting it. (Never played a Paradox game in my life). You can get it nice and cheap now.
The question is, is it worth it? I have heard bad things about bugs and AI.
Also, is Victoria better?

Victoria has the steepest learning curve of any paradox game. If you're willing to learn though, it is a very rewarding experience.
Just be warned it is probably the most complex of any paradox game.

K, thanks. Is the AI any good? Will it leave me with no social life?![]()

The AI can and will beat you, expect to see your empire destroyed in your first 5-10 games, unplug your phone, stock up on snack food and coke, tell your work your dead.
its dam addictive, nothing beats seeing your carefully laid plans to beat Germany in 1939 as France succed perfectly.
