Right I said this already that I am disappointed by the generic appearance of the uniforms, there is also no reason for me to think that other factions or other units that we have not seen will be any different.

Obviously there are a myriad of reasons why you could justify this approach I will leave those excuses to someone else.

Now why? And considering that this period has literally a treasure trove of colors and designs would CA go for this generic look?

One example is this rifle unit that appears to be some version of the 95th

    Screen shot:http://www.totalwar-zone.de/games/et...rd=screenshots

    Actual 95th rifle unit:http://www.mont-saint-jean.com/cent_...p?uniformes=43

It appears that in this case CA have gone for the officers uniform and put this on the ordinary soldiers, they then ignored the bugler from that rifle unit and used another style of bugler from a different rifle unit. The officer appears to be some sort of pirate have no idea whats happening there.

These officers and buglers are then used as far as I can tell by other units and also different factions (color change) so overall you have this generic look throughout the battlefield.

In affect you have made and then reproduced inappropriate uniforms for certain units and then by applying this to different factions you have compounded your error.

In this screen you have a version of what is almost certainly a dismounted British Dragoon

    http://www.pcgamer.se/bilder/arkiv/u...pba36vws98.jpg

and in this shot you seem to have its alternative faction version.

With an engine that can render such beautiful screen shots why would you not try and reproduce accurately some of the many uniforms available. I appreciate that this can be modded but its a bit
of a lame excuse for not doing it yourself.

Some people have criticized seeing two different uniforms from two different periods alongside each other, that does not bother me too much, its seeing the wrong types of uniforms full stop.

Mhm I have to agree, the Riflemen look -somewhat- accurate but the Officers...?
It would just annoy me at the back of the mind looking at units I know arent correct.

Edit": Although they could be actually a different unit standing right in front? Still unsure what they're supposed to be though in that case.

Yeah, and considering the 95th rifles weren’t a unit when this game is set, all the units look the same for each faction, and the officer and trumpeter look stupit....I’m a little disappointed .

from the rome,We take the handicad and disadvantage of public teenager that alone wants visual showiness in the games.
the veteran players of shogun, adult public many of them,we are isolated between so much players teenager.

Okay, let's get back on topic please and recall that the game is not out yet so we cannot really say what the final uniforms will look like. Happy fuzzy kittens and cheerful butterflies.

They should be careful with the soldiers uniforms, they could've made them to look like the uniforms of the 1700s. The uniforms from the pics up there look like the uniforms of the Napoleonic wars.
Remember the uniforms from the 1700s??
The soldiers or at least officers should have wigs!!!

Shogun was as historical as RTW.

Frankly, all this complaints about the uniforms and canteens is absolutely nothing compared to the stupid Geishas&Ninjas and fantasy units in Shogun.

And the graphics of Shogun was the best at that time.
It may look crappy now, but in 2000 that was the best they could have made.
Shogun was the only game at that time that had thousands of soldiers on screen.

That's true but to be honest I'm personally fine with them slipping in the formation of the Rifles a little early, it's a damn useful unit to have. Dont want all my men to be line infantry and Cav.

Anyway havent they said the game will go up to the Napolianic wars? Which if I'm not mistaken they very much existed in.

I think it's for a similar reason that the Scots were Braveheart rip offs in M2TW and our tutor in RTW was doing a Russel Crowe impression. They're all dressed like Sharpe. Wouldn't be suprised if we see colonial militia armed with dual wielding tomahawks.

some of you guys on these forums are so pathetic on this, you take one screenshot or one piece of information about the game and suggest that if the hat isn't the right way round or if a cuff link is out of place this game wont be fun. Its a game, Creative Assembly try very very hard to be as historical as they can be while still making the game fun and enjoyable for those who don't have degrees in 17th Century Warfare. Some of you seem to want a game that is completely 100 percent historical and to be quite honest the huge majority of gamers don't care and wouldn't buy the game if it was as it would probably bore the hell out of most people. If you want a game that is ridiculously historical then fine make it yourself because publishers wont get good money to make it because no one would buy it so please its still over 6 months from release these are screen shots just to show roughly what it looks like are not final, so please get over yourselves and wait till the game is released and then you can have a go at it for slightly anti historical but it will be fun and enjoyable to play so most people wont care. My 2 pence.

AcidJiles, sorry but i dont really see how historical uniforms would make the game boring or anything. And mods like EB and RTR showed that historical accuracy is neither boring nor neccesarily unpopular.

And i dont think anyone here is complaining about tiny little details, while i dont know anything about this unit, the comments suggest that the whole uniform is completely wrong.
So it's probably like displaying all US soldiers in some modern Wargame as clicheed vietnam style GIs.

my response is after dozen of threads on equally spurious grounds and so is more a comment to all the threads rather than this one specifically.
