    Default POTBS---Free Or Fraud?

Bought the game today, thought it would be Interesting since I like pirate stuff. Said it came with a 30 day free trial, made an account, Asked for my credit card.......WTF?? Why would It need my credit card if its on a free trial? I phoned customer support, said if I didn't want to use my credit card i have to buy a game card for 19 bucks.....WTF I thought it said it was free. Is this some kind of false advertising or Fraud?

    Common MMORPG thing.
The thing is that you pay on regular basis.
You decided if it is 1 month, 3 months or 6 months.
After your time is up they take money from your account for another subscription.
They will do this until you tell them to stop.
The first month is indeed free.

I know all this. But it asked for my credit card and i still had to play for one month so in actuality it isn't free. It's too bad, the game looked good, but reviews were bad, but I don't trust reviews. I'll just get my money back and buy the orange box or something

Yeah but as I said, most if not all MMORPGs does this.
This is to keep you playing without getting a "account frozen" message.

A good number of MMO's require your credit card information to verify your identity, and to get you ready for an active subscription. Most of those will also allow you to cancel the subscription before the first payment is made which is usually at the end of your free trial month. Not quite sure where POTBS stands with this as I didn't buy it due to the amount of bad feedback I saw when researching the game before buying.

16 million + MMO players around the world would disagree with that statement.

World of Warcraft also asks for a gamecard/credit card before you can actually use your free month. A rather common practice, one I hate too. If only one could try an MMO for one month, without restrictions, before needing to fork over cash.

Voyage Century Online is better than this, in my opinion.

If anyone wants to play a better pirate game than POTBS, here is the link for Voyage Century Online, it's a good one.

    http://vc.igg.com/

Guess what the price is. Free forever!

I didn't really like voyage century online because it took place in the Mediterranean, not in the Caribbean. If you guys want to play the best pirate game ever (isn't online thou) get pirates of the Caribbean with build mod 13 final. Best game i have ever played.

Also the guy at customer support said i still had to pay even thou the first month was "free"

You were thinking of becoming one of those 16 mil + and playing a game that revolves around social interaction with those people, but don't care about them? Could have saved yourself the trouble and just picked up Sid Meier's Pirates! or something.

I'm the same way, but there is no shortage of information available from people that play the game. A 10 minute stop on any of the good MMO discussion forums could have provided enough warning about the quality of the game. And a short stop to the support section of the POTBS website would have likely informed you about the billing requirements.

Believe me, I'm not trying to harp on you or anything, I just hate to see bad games get another box sold because of an impulse purchase. (I'm looking at you, Black & white 2!)

Also the guy at customer support said i still had to pay even thou the first month was "free"
Call up your credit card company and request that they put a stop on the payment. Some allow this, some do not. The ones that do will usually accept "product provided false expectations of billing methods" as reason enough to stop it.

Ha that is nothing, Socom 3: U.S. Navy Seals supposably has free online service yet inorder to play online you need to give a viable credit card number. That is a wtffffff. and the reasons as to why is because supposably to keep 'cheaters' off socom, lol?
