    Default Late-Period English Units

When playing as England in the Grand Campaign, do they have good units in the late period? If so, what are there best, most cost-effective units at this time? If not, how can I make up for any military weakness late in the game?

    Thank You

England late game has a very solid line-up of tough soldiers. Like a few others, they get Armoured Swordsmen who provide an extremely resilient front line, they get Dismounted Knights who provide an excellent shock force, their Longbowmen are amongst the most deadly ranged units available with the addition of deployable stakes that will severely weaken any cavalry attack, and their English Knights are also a respectable heavy cavalry force.

England late game is on even footing and even perhaps holding slight advantage over her neighbours.

Retinue Longbows. English Knights look really good, but I'd have to say that England's late units weren't all that great in cost-effectiveness.
I was excited about the Armoured Swordsmen until I saw that they didn't fare any better in combat than Dismounted Feudal Knights, so there wasn't any point to make them.

English Knights can KO Lancers. Rather weird, considering Lancers are supposed to be one of the best cavalry around, but they always come out on top in my fights.

Cmdr, I currently play Kingdoms so I'm not 100% sure of this, but Armoured Swordsmen are cheaper in terms of upkeep.

Besides, late period, even if you turtle the British Isles, you'll be making enough money to support 2/3 stacks anyway.

!?!?!? Armored Swordsmen have an upkeep 150, whilst the DFK have 225, the difference is considerable.

Their around equal to each other, small things vary.

Another important thing, Armored Swordsmen can upgrade their armor, unlike the D. Feudals. They never go obsolete.
Team up with D. English Knight, Heavy Billmen and Pikemen, you have an infantry army that can deal with almost anything.
About half of your army should be ranged units, Retinue archers and yeomen archers. Culverin and Mortars are also quite useful.
English knights are good for their AP mace, they do kill Lancers in melee, but Lancers does a lot more damage on charge. Mounted Longbowmen are great if you mod them.

i wonder if anyone could actually fire a longbow from a horse. It requires a lot of strength when you are on the ground, doesn't seem historically accurate to me.

England is deadly though. Retinue Longbow are amazing as are Armored Swordsman and Dismounted English Knights. English Knights are good and i even like to use demi lancers, they are like a medium cavalry, fast, good charge but not as much armor as knights.

This makes me want to start another campaign with England.

Why has no-one mentioned demi lancers -very quick and excellent charge, cheaper than english knights.

Responding to comment above armoured swordsmen own DFK's

As mentioned above, armoured swordsmen are very good, they hack through any light infantry, but some, like dism. norman knights and venetian heav.inf.
can and will defeat em. Dism. english knights suck, as do all bill units in vanilla ( which I assume is the first version of the game ). Dism.English knights are a waste of money in vanilla, but in kingdoms they hack heavy infantry to pieces!

Armoured swordsmen, retinue longbowmen/ yeomen, mailed knights ( for their easy replacament capability ), some artilley, spearmen and general unit. That would be an army capable of defeating almost any other army on the battflefield..

"Vanilla" means a totally unmodded version of the game (regardless of patches). And the bill units (as are 2handed units) are usually so bad in vanilla M2TW because of the 2handed units bug that forces them into parrying all the time because of the animation speeds - and that's also why they can't defeat anything but get crushed in return. Most mods and Kingdoms as I assume have fixed that bug so those units can be quite the killers there.

Well the japanese used the longest bow I've ever seen from horseback, but it had a strange design, very unique. A normal English longbow wouldn't be possible since they were 5 foot or more ( height of the user. ) Anyway to be on topic: I find England a bit lacking in fun units late game, but still, the units they get complement each other very well.

In "Weapons That Made Britain" Mike Loades fires a longbow from horseback!
