Pikemen

I started a game as the scots, hoping to enjoy a unique army - lots of pikemen!
I then noticed that Pikemen, in general, suck.
So I looked on these lovely forums and found out that removing their secondary weapon ("rubber knives") makes them much more effective (maybe too much, but I don't believe it).

So, how does one go about removing said secondary weapons?

didn't know you could unless you mod the game somehow.

I find that the best way to use Pikeman is like old style greek hoplites.

Just put them in spearwall and advance and skewer everything in your way.

Scotland are a bit boring though -just pikes and pikes and some more pikes.

Pikemen are best used statically, that is stay still and let the enemy come to you. And you have to turn off defense stance after fighting begins. Then they kick ass. Removing the secondary weapons and tuning their formations only make them even more deadly.
