3dsmax is for modelling and costs alot of money. If its just skinning you want to try use GIMP because its free and there is a plugin to allow you to open the dds files.
link to GIMP for windows
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

thanks,
uhh i'm using gimp and i know that you can use phtoshop to
are there other programs?
Thanks for the Links![]()
if its just skinning then any photo package that will allow you to open dds files is ok. But they are the best two I know of. I only listed GIMP because its free and PS isnt. Modelling the only one that I know of that will allow you to save as a CAS file is 3dsMax (you will also need a plugin script which you can get from this site) the only thing is that it costs around £2000. Think you can download a 30 day demo just to try it out.

Great start.....
You really don't need Photoshop though. Some great results can be obtained with GIMP - it's free, has HUGE functionality, and is frequently being updated. Loads of great filters and plug-ins and so on.
Thanks for the comments
Now heres My Final skin for this Unit
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Thanks![]()
yep i agree with you Tone the chains are big hehe![]()
Cool skin!
But I have a problem. I made a skin for RTW (with an DDS Converter), but the shield are in "black box", so I download the Photoshop DDS Plugin, and now, one man on the left side has "black box" in the unit.
If anyone have an idea, or link me a good turorial, I will thx...:hmmm:
(Sorry if my English was wrong...)
Thanks Everyone for sharing some tips for skinning
its muchly appreciated![]()
ok but i'll be skinning a different unit this time maybe then i can use gimp![]()
Nice tools to look out for in GIMP under the filters menu:
iWarp - use this to "unbend/ undistort" things or to curve things - play with the settings to find out what works best
Emboss - use this on subtle settings to add a 3D feel particularly to metal textures (Azimuth around 90 (if vertical), elevation around 50, depth around 1-3)
Clothify is good too
