One day in - Was it the E3 you hoped for? I'm am not interested in which company "won" E3. This is more Wii focused. I can say as a Wii owner, with Miyamoto's comments after the press conference (which was borderline awful and certainly uninteresting) could we have really hoped for more?
Wii MotionPlus looks amazing, and people who tried it are raving about it. Swordfighting is (as would you would have expected) apprerently quite awesome. This means everyone is officially excited about the the new Zelda.
Speaking of which, NEW ZELDA! Miyamoto confirmed it is being worked on, and apprently instead of milking the guarenteed epic sales it would be (come on, its Zelda, probably with MotionPlus control), they are looking to innovate with "big new unique ideas" according to Miyamoto. Twilight Princess, in my mind, did the impossible and was better than OoT... the next effort you would expect to top that. So they have to do something different, and I'm glad they are.
So... uber motion control... Zelda... what else could we want?
Voice chat solution? Check. (And thank god.)
New Mario title, a Galaxy sequel? Miyamoto confirmed there is a team on it... Check.
Pikmin? Going to be revealed soon apperently. Check.
Animal Crossing taking the platform were the Mii's started with MMO elements? Check.
So what are the possible disappointments? Well, I think we were all (atleast many of us) hoping for a Kid Icarus annoucement at the press conference. However, Miyamoto virtually confirmed it when he said he couldn't be the one to confirm it as he wasn't the producer of the game. Also, good sources were reporting it was going to be revealed at E3 until it came out yesterday (the day before the conference) that Kid Icarus wouldn't be making an apperence. But lets face it, the game is out there, and close to reveal. That is all I need to know.
Other disappointments? Well... Wii Music looks to be a mass appeal piece of trash. But that wasn't anything but expected. It will sell well, and possibly be rather entertaining for a short period of time. Just to go through the 50 instruments will take quite a bit of time. And if you have a balance board the Drum Set looks quite cool actually. The fact that Wii Sports Resort is clearly a better game from the Wii series than Music is a little sad, but Resort looked actually decent and will be a good addition to any Wii library.
The biggest and only true disappointment was the lack of a storage solution. However, Miyamoto atleast confirmed that there was a problem and even better that they were working on various solutions. Seeing as Nintendo wouldn't even acknowledge the idea of there being a problem prior to this, this is a big step... though not large enough of one for my hopes.
---------------------------------------------------------
So on the whole, how was day one of E3 for Wii?
I am suprised... this was supposed to be a bad E3 for Wii. It was supposed to be Wii Music, maybe one solution of the various ones hoped for, and maybe one big title.
I was hoping for voice chat, storage solution, and a couple big games confirmed to being worked on. Instead I got voice chat, confirmation of movement on the storage issue, the unexpected and exciting MotionPlus, and a slew of big titles (Zelda, Mario, Kid Icarus, Pikmin) being worked on.
In other words, more than expected, more than hoped for. Atleast for me.
So to everyone else... how was day one for you?
