    Default Installation problem

Hello, I usually post in the RTR mod forum so this is my first time in here. I've recently tried installing another mod (ExRM) but in trying to do so I have messed things up with my RTW installation!

The details aren't important but basically my control panel says RTW is installed even though I deleted the whole creative assembly folder from program files myself. Obviously without the game files I can't play RTW or any of the mods and I can't uninstall so I can then re-install so I can get the files and folders back :hmmm:

When I click on 'remove' in my control panel it says 'the specified module could not be found'.

Does anyone have any ideas besides wiping my HD ? That's all I can think of at the moment.

If you go into your start menu, and then to 'Total War' in the Programs menu, then there should be a thing that allows you to uninstall it. Otherwise, I'm not sure. You should go ask this in the Technical Forum.

Where is the technical forum ? Sorry to be a retard! I looked around and can't find it.

Selecting uninstall from the the program list gives the same result as when I'm trying to uninstall from the control panel.

You have to go through a complete, manual uninstall of RTW. Follow my directions!

-Click on STart button, then on Run.
-Type REGEDIT in the box just as it appears here.
    -Go to HKEY CURRENT USER.
    -Click on SOFTWARE.
    -Find ACTIVISION or CREATIVE ASSEMBLY.
-Delete it and all its subkeys by rightclicking and clicking delete option.
-Now go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE.
    -Click on Software.
    -Find ACTIVISION or CREATIVE ASSEMBLY.
    -Delete.
    -Exit REGEDIT.
    -Go to MY COMPUTER.
    -Go to SEARCH.
    -Type in Rome-TW.ini
-If you find it, delete it.
-Now you can reinstall, no hassle.

This should work, I hope it helped.

If you go into Total War Eras, then there is a subforum called "Technical Forum" at the bottom.

I think Legio answered your question, but I'll move this to the Technical Help section so that others can see if it worked or not.

    Look here.
Their instructions are more accurate and detailed.
    :hmmm:hope you get this fixed.

    Sure.

Wait a second- how did you uninstall in the first place?
Just by deleting files or by going to control panel?
Because just deleting causes this prob.
If so, keep trying and hope for the best. It happened to me once.

By deleting the folder you've not removed the entry for the game from the Windows Registry.

Always either use the game's own 'uninstall' option or use the add/remove selection from the Control Panel in Windows. You may have to delete the folder at the end to remove everything (and free up a small amount of space).

The easiest way to not have to uninstall a game (unless you really don't want to play it again or need the space) is to keep the 'official' game folder in a clean state and just copy it to a new folder and apply any mods to each copy. If you get tired of a mod (or need the space) simply delete the folder with the mod in it. This method also means that an install of one mod cannot effect another mod.
