DotA?

Just wondering, if anyone here plays it, its such a huge game, don't know why it doesn't havea thread..

DotA is repetitive and boring

I recently played a map called Lordaeron tactics, which is like Battle for Middle Earth except it's portrayed in Lordaeron. Without doubt an amazing map, although I got my ass kicked by orcs when I played as Qael'thalas.

Dota is terribly dull, A bit addicting maybe. But terribly terribly dull.
I hate the fact it dominates the map lists, its boring and nearly always the same
I like those maps with battleships in them more.

I love DotA. It's my favorite form of online competition at the moment and a great game that relies on teamwork. That said, if you're not very good, most players will

you out for the entire game.

I don't really think it's repetitive or dull. There are 91 fairly unique heroes at the moment and the list keeps growing, and there are different ways to build them all. And while it's a simple game on the surface it's actually very deep, believe it or not, there is professional DotA gaming and having played against a team of pros I can say that it's one of those games where you can always get better.

The key to having the most fun with it is playing with friends. After a few games you begin to understand the basics of team play in the game which makes it infinitely more engaging.

Even if you manage to basically negate its basic fault of nearly every battle is the same and that its extremely unfriendly to newbs, You still get the fact its inferior to a lot of games on the custom games list. Its just more addicting then them .

Starcraft does everything dota does better and war3tft custom is about/fun complicated and interesting maps.

Why don't people play more Underworld, ITT, H&E, castle defence, village builder, orcs v.s. footman, pudge wars (others I can't be bothered thinking of at 3:03 am)

They are not at all related. DotA is a competitive team based action RPG that happens to use an RTS game as its platform.

Why don't people play more Underworld, ITT, H&E, castle defence, village builder, orcs v.s. footman, pudge wars (others I can't be bothered thinking of at 3:03 am)

Do they have a devoted team of developers that spend endless unpaid hours balancing and improving the game? Despite what you may think, DotA is a high quality product.

Obviously the negative sentiments about DotA are because it's not friendly to beginners. I understand this; if you go into a game without knowing what you're doing you get flamed endlessly. Yes, 99% of the community that plays public games will hate you if you don't know what every hero does and what items to get for them. Go to http://getdota.com/ai_maps and learn the basics playing games of single player. Or ask me. Just please stop making unfounded critical statements.

So many haters

Dota is a game within a game. It's very professional, polished and addictive. It should only be played when you have lots of friends to play it with though, it's a great social game but looses its charm if you battle against strangers.

so many dota haters?
I can say most people I know irl who hate dota tried it, got owned and said it sucks

it is not repititive, there are over 90 different heroes, a heck of a lot of modes, (all pick, all random, super creeps, wtf mode)
it is definetly not dull and reptitive, unlike pudge wars, everyone is pudge and all your doing is hooking each other

I've tried a lot of customs, island defence, vampirism, TBR, orc vs humans, but in the end, I come back to dota for the fact that every game is a different game..
