    Default Cash...

...and my inability to make any.

I'm stumped. My strength is usually the campaign map, but so far, this mod has given me a solid backhand to the face at every attempt to stimulate my economy. Not just a wimpy smack, but a solid slap the leaves a red mark, a bruise, and snot dripping out of my nose. Like a sack of clementines.

Unless I play one of the huge factions, i.e. Babylon, the Medes, or the Lydians, I'm in the red by the end of either my second, third, or fourth turn depending on the faction.

I have tried the old method of disbanding all my armies, but the combative nature of the mod just doesn't lend to that- unless you play as the Indians, you'll have armies swarming all over you at the behest of some belligerent bugger in two game-time years. I love playing small factions, so this of course, doesn't help my cause.

I'm at a loss. Do any of you have any viable strategies for stimulating economy, or at least, how to build one up in fashion suitable to the game? Thanks in advance.

PS- And of course, the obligatory: I love this mod!

First of all, do you play with the 4tpy background script enabled? If you don't then this is your clue. Otherwise, conquer some adjancent regions and don't wait too long with that At some point you will have a fairly positive cashflow.
When I'm playing Persia I first always conquer Susa and Ysatis in the first couple of turns, which gives a positive cashflow, then I expand into whatever direction I want (of which Babylon is the most challenging).

I do play with the 4tpy, however, with [often] my only city losing 2000... gold pieces? per turn, and with 5k to start with, I'm broke in the course of one year. Thats the biggest problem.

With Persia, I find it the hardest, because even with all those butt-poor Iranian provinces, the money just keeps alluding me. Oddly enough, I end up making the most money with Taras.. :hmmm:

Sea trade is your best answer my friend. Try get trade rights with babylon, build some ports, conquer some saudi arabian provinces that border the persian gulf build more ports and bang. not to mention youll be able to train some peltasts that way, which are killing machines against the highly armored babylonian units.

If you play as a Greek get the Ionian provinces they are the reaches in the map I think.
