ChivTW 0.98: Released

We decided to release the current 0.98 build for you as an open beta version.

... yes, it's true, without much fuzz, you are now able to play our recent and hottest Chivalry baby, go to the usual dl-thread

- If you experience a ctd or other real bugs, please help us to fix them ... how?
Use the stickied 'Bug Report' thread: First post, there is a form (copy and paiste it), put in your observations exactly after the points of the form.

Yeah, 1.0 is for me, I have my covered horses already, and I'm pleased with that.Besides it's 400 mb, not a small download, and I can't dl anything at the moment.

I would still like to see those new units, but I'll be patient.And Great Work BTW.

The gameplay has changed significantly with 0.98, not only units have changed, 1.0 will be pretty much the same as 0.98, just only in a finalised way with some additions/little changes and bug fixes.

it is the final version.

However, of course it is possible that additional add-on's will be produced by some of us (perhaps new hist. battles?).
But that's no official stuff.

Who reads official release infos has information-advantages.
Btw., what do you expect by a High era? Chiv's timeframe is historically the High Middleage, but the timeline stops, when the Mongols would appear (at 1223 AD).

If you are an owner of MTW-Kingdoms, then i recommend to get The Sicilian Vespers' upcoming release (5 campaigns, from Dark Age to Renaissance).

I've played a few custom battles now and I'm very much impressed! You've all done a great job with the ERE ( the one I played ), the new units looks great and I liked that you've made them somewhat more "gritty-looking".

You should, however, really make a proper looking Byzantine general...

The overall feel is excelent, as expected

But there is some I wonder about: What's the reasoning behind giving AP to sword infantrie and heavy cav in general? I have the feel it defeats somehow the purpose of high level axeman.

I also know now why the cuman AI is so passive: its hard to be NOT passive, even as a player. They have little to no income, but no big army. I had to gang up my genarl to form an army which could hope to best the strong rebell forces arround (which is somehow against my housrules: only one, or two at most, general units in one army).
For the player this is an unusal challange (Armenia, Bohemia and Aragon are challenging too, but in a different way), so in this respect this is good. Unfortunately for the AI its an impossible barrier to overcome

Yes, the gameplay needs still a bit tweaking here and there, but if i remember right i was able to expand even with the Cumans (in earlier versions though, now it needs a little review due to new cost structures).

Anglo Saxon Huskarls, Viking Huskarls, Varangian Mercs for example.

But my real "beef" is not that Axemen dont have a purpose (they have in most cases, due to cost relation or availability), but that the distinction between swordsmen an axemen is now a pure cosmetical.
