Annihalted Papal States..

So i've taken Rome, Papal States have no cities or anything left, just killed the Pope in battle, thought i had destroyed the Papal States, but no. It just came up saying a new Pope has been elected, but he is nowhere on the campaign map, how do i destroy the papal states completely? There is also no catholic states left.

papal states are undestroyable. its a bit weird that there is a pope elected with no catholics left (so there shouldnt be any cardinals), though. have you disabled the FOW to check if theres a pope somewhere?

Yeah i have, no Pope anywhere on the map, but there is one if i check the papacy screen.

If you can check the Papacy screen, doesn't that mean you're a Catholic nation? Has one of your's been promoted? Did the Papal states themselves have a Cardinal who is now Pope?

Yeah i'm playing as England, but i'm playing incredibly anti-relgious, i have no cardinals, the pope freakin hates me, seeing as i destroyed all their cities and killed the former pope

Kill every priest in the world. I once managed to ensure there was no pope by killing every singled one that "poped" up, using a small army of light ranged cavalry. I conquered the Catholic world and burned all of the churches, letting heretics and witches run loose. The reason was that I got a young king with the public atheism trait, so I thought, "Why not indulge him?"

Basically, you need to conquer every Catholic nation to destroy the papacy.

ya i saw no papal regions, yet there was a papal state army within my territorys (near rome) that didnt do anything except take up space for more then half the campagn until i won.

Nope. Just had that situation, I trained a bunch of priests in my capital and got an entire college of cardinals our of it. Then I started cheating to give them the Secretly Female trait, so I could get a bunch of Momes, or whatever a female Pope is.
