Perhaps, but I have to pay for my funeral, I can't see why the taxpayer should pay for anyone else's. Your Churchills and Wellingtons, yes, they saved the nation from destruction.But I expected Thatcher's Chancellors to do their jobs properly. Not enough of a reason for me to fork out for her entombment.

Of ocurse, she may have been a disaster, but shewas the first female MP and Prime Minister, and is teh longest serving i believe too. Plus participated in actually protecting british civilians for teh first time since WW2.

problem is.

half the country loved her. the other half hated her and still do.

you will have just as many people cheering as you will crying. so on that basis i dont think a state funeral would be right, that is if she dies in the next 10 years.

if she makes it another decade, i think the most people left will have fonder memories of her. its too soon now (if she was to die tormorrow)

Its our Monarchs that get the state funerals, not our Prime Ministers. The last Prime Minister to get a state funeral I believe was Winston Churchill, and I think we can all agree that he deserved it.

If Thatcher was to get a state funeral, then it should be on the grounds that she was the first female MP and Prime Minister, because a lot of her policies (with perhaps the exception of the Falklands) cause to much controversy. Privatisation may have helped in some areas, but she did bring hardship to a lot of people, such as the miners. And wasnt it under her rule that they tried to bring in Poll Tax, which lead to the riots?
