    Default A few questions

    1. When I have units on the wall, will towers on the wall shoot at them and I have to run through them to take them?

    2. I know that to get a proper lance cavalry charge you need to form up properly, be in a direct line from a stationary enemy and single right click. But what about when they engage in swords and want them back in lances? And also what if I'm coming in fire from archers and I want to get there quickly?

    3. If you take Rome will you have your Cardinal elected?

    4. If I say I'll participate in a crusade but don't actually bother going will my standing with the pope go down?

    Cheers for any answers?

    1) it doesnt matter if ur units run through the tower. as long as there are 1 or more defending units nearby who have not routed the tower will keep shooting at u - you need to have at least 1 unit "garrisoned" near the tower when you are defending for it to shoot (u can see that the tower will shoot by the flag it will have on top of it)

2)they will automatically switch back to lances after the leave melee combat and u tell them to charge another enemy, however im not sure that you will get the lance's charge bonus after the first charge

3)no, having ur cardinal elected has to do with how many votes u get, getting rome will probably get u excommunicated, hence ppl wont like you and they wont vote for u during elections (if u can participate at all)

4)nope, but the army u have crusading will desert you if you dont move it closer to its target every single turn

    1) So lets say I ran my ladders up to an empty wall and put my men on top, and a tower was nearby. What do I do to have it in my control?
    4) I mean I say yes to crusading, but I don't make an army?

Cheers for the answers on the other ones.

You can't capture towers during a battle. You have to win the battle and own the city/castle in order for the towers to fight for you. This is different from how it was in Rome Total War, where you could capture the towers during the battle just by running your guys through them.

The best you can do is to disable the tower by either:
    a) Hitting it with artillery.
    b) Driving all enemy units off both the sections of wall that bracket the tower and from the road that runs near to the base of the tower. Note that the tower will re-activate for the enemy if he manages to run a unit onto the road next to it or the walls bracketing it.

Only some towers shoot at you when you're on the walls or inside them, some only seem to have a field of fire outside the walls.

Also if you breech the walls and get units inside them then the AI will often pull its troops back, which causes the now un-manned towers not to fire. So attacking an undefended portion of walls/gate with a small force whilst threatening with a larger force can be quite effective if you have more units than the enemy does. (Although the AI will often run troops over to defend against these assaults it shouldn't be that hard to get onto the walls...)

Sorry the only way to join a crusade is to have a general with a decent sized army join. You can't accept the crusade without an army.

Also if you get on a crusade and desert it, even the NON-crusader units eg. the ones you didn't hire whilst on a crusade will desert

Also do I need a general in the army?

I was thinking of putting a General with a peasant and just leaving them because the general is crap and also the pope wont hate me.

Well, if I recall your crusading army needs at least 6-7 units too start out including a General. He may be crappy, but when your on a crusade your troops get a huge moral bonus, and if you eventually win a crusade you general will suck... a little less. He gets a few bonuses that make it worth your while.

Crusading is a big boom for your general if you manage to take the target, it gives ancillaries, traits and standing with the pope. Also, you can just raze the city and then gift it to the pope or sell it.
You walk your army out and the pope gets the joy of a jihad on his neck.
