Default Seeing the hidden game data

Hey, I'm looking to make El Cid bribable, and I understand that to do this you need to modify files that are hidden away somewhere. I think revealing them requires you to unpack the data folder - how would I go about doing this?

I will not rest until El Cid is married to my princess! >.>

Ok go to tools in your MTW2 foler and click on unpack all. There are to files that you need to delete can't remember there names. If you have Vista bad luck(like me) go to your app date folder in your account name. If you can't find it, its becuase its hidden change your settin to allow you to see hidden folders. Now go to visual store, program files than sega. All the unpack data is there go!

You will have to change the faction settings at the bottom of the descr_strat file. Still don't know if it will be possible to ally with the rebel faction, because that's what you do if your princess gets married to El Cid.

I'm going to bribe him first. I did it once as the Moors without making any modifications, but he can't join their royal family. I gave him traits to the effect of -200% cost to bribe, and my diplomat gave -90% (this was on my second try, as Spain) and he wouldn't accept any bribe. So now I'm going to make him a bit more avaricious.

Also, there is no "unpack all" in the Tools menu for my Medieval II folder.

Have you got anything in that folder? If you have got the exe in there than it will be easy to restore a batch file for unpacking.

PS. the descr_strat file is in the data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign directory and doesn't need to be unpacked.

A bit off topic but is El-Cid a random general or a historical one? Coz i haven't heard of him.

Uhm, in the Medieval 2 folder? I have the game's .exe, yeah. How would I go about doing what you said with descr_strat? Really I want to make him bribable, since I now have the notion of making him the Byzantine emperor (through bribing and then marriage to a princess).

    Yep, pretty famous historical general.

Please read your old posts properly to keep track of the answers.
Your were saying there is nothing in the tools menu which I thought you referred to as the directory in the M2TW directory named tools. (That's where the unpack all resides) This was the directory I referred too as well when I was asking for an exe file.

I would advise you to have a look in the "tools, tutorials and resource" forum where all your questions of this thread are answered already.
And there is a search function which I would encourage you to use liberally.

Ah, sorry! I thought you meant the drop down menu "Tools". Right, I've got it now, thanks!

    EDIT:

Blergh, alright, so I unpacked it all and made a few changes. El Cid still unbribable. -_-

The Argonese (sp?) region of of Spain has always been a region very resistant to integration. They resisted the Reconquista longer than the Moors did. To this day, they have a seperate governing body than the rest of Spain, though to what extent they have control is hottly debated. El Cid was their most powerful and brilliant leader in their resistance of Spain. He was the absolute bastion of the chivalrous leader of a small and noble nation. Were you ever able to bribe him in any way, I'd be disappointed with the game developers.

Alright, so I gave up trying to make him bribable and just swapped him with Vaasco. Now Vaasco (in Valencia) has El Cid's portrait, and El Cid has Vaasco's portait. These portraits don't seem to be described anywhere - does anyone know where they might be?

Edit: Moving El Cid out of Valencia works. It seems he IS bribable, but Valencia isn't - that's my theory, anyway.

My bad: if a character is inside a town, you do not bribe the character BUT the town.
A character has to be "in the field" to be bribed.

Yes, it just seems that Valencia can't be bribed. Now, I wonder where that can be changed. >.>
