    Default v1.2 patch problems

Hello guys! I have always played total war games without any problems, I have recently bought MTW II and played it for about 2 months without any problems, this week when I try to actually go into battles (instead of simulating them) the game freezes in the load up bar area...So I figured it might be some issue so I have re-installed the game but it was still happening, I looked online and see that about a year ago a patch (v1.2) was released. The patch sounds great so I downloaded it. I get all the way to the section where it is extracting everything and when it is done I go to select my language as english and then this appears "medieval total war II is not detected, a previous version is needed" or something along those lines...any suggestions?

By the way I am on a laptop that uses vista and my game version is 1.0 if it matters

    Thanks!!

You might have downloaded the incorrect language version of the patch. Or, the patch is detecting a modified exe.

thanks for the reply, but I am pretty sure thats not the case, I downloaded the patch straight from the sega area and it was the english version and I am still having the problem..

"The setup has detected that no version of Medieval II: Total War is installed.

This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed."

I have version 1.0 and this is patch 1.2

Do you have Vista? Can you play the game right now without the patch?

Do you have a direct download version of the game or anything like that? They usually require a specific patch.

Try grabbing the patch off of filefront or somewhere like that and see if that helps.

I have vista yes, but I bought the game retail, as in the DVD. I can play the regular game just fine (campaign) without the patch, except that I cannot do battles I have to simulate them or the game freezes.

This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed.

Vista being what it is do you have administrative rights to it? Did you for some reason move it to a different folder? Did you modify any of the files including the medieval2.exe?

I do have the administrative rights, but I did edit some of the files, only to make the turns from 2 years to 1 year. But since I deleted the registry and uninstalled and re-installed shouldnt that not matter? what is the 'correct' way to completely wipe it from my computer to start over

Uninstall the game through the control panel/ add remove programs, Kingdoms first, then M2TW. Use a registry cleaner. Delete all Sega folders including the hidden one in virtual store. Reboot. Then install.

You're saying 'English' version. There are effectively 4 (I think) different English versions -- European Multi-language including English, DirectDownload English, US Version and US Gold Version. Make sure you are downloading the correct one.

Concerning the virtual store read the sticky concerning this game and Vista. If you have a US language version that is not Gold, then the US non-gold version.
