    Default Papacy + Generals death

    Papacy Question-

Im currently in a game with Byz and I've taken control of Rome but the Papacy still owns Valencia. How come I cant control the Pope votes even though I own the capital of the world? The capital of Christianity? Even though Im an Orthodox faction I should be able to control them! blah!

    Generals Death-

How come when you're fighting an enemy general and they fall sometimes they survive and you can ransom them. But when you fall, you always die, always. Whats the deal with that?

1)What do you mean? You don't have the same religion as the Pope

2)Well,sometimes they don't say "we have captured the enemy general"

    1. It's because you're not the Pope. Simple as.

    2. When the general's bodyguard is ROUTING and your soldiers manage to bring down the general, they will capture him and you can ransom him. The same will happen if your own general routs in battle and is captured. Problem is, humans generally use their generals more wisely than the AI and stick him into situations were he is not easily routed. That, and the AI sometimes executes your general after the battle.

    1. The Byzantines are Orthodox not Catholic besides wouldn't Orthodoxy get rid of the papacy since they hate Catholics so much?

2.The general was retreating and yours weren't when they were knocked over on the battlefield.

1.) There have been several times in history in which the Vatican City was captured, and/or the Pope was sent into exile. When this happened, the Pope was rarely actually under the control of the conquering armies. Granted, Popes have been known to be puppet popes, before, but the particulars of those situations require more ... finess than this game allows.

2.) "Enemy general has fallen!" This means litterally what it says. The enemy general has fallen from his horse. Now, things that can happen are... He was killed, and thus fell. He fell, and was killed. He was heavily injured, thus fell, and died from those injuries. He was heavily injured, thus fell, but recovered from those injuries. He was knocked from his horse, uninjured, and thus captured. He was captured, uninjured, and thus removed from his horse... and any number of similar combinations.

Many of the possabilities lead to you having, at the end of the battle, a live enemy general in your hands which you can ransom to the enemy. When the AI captures your general, it tends to be in a situation such that your general did not survive the ordeal, simply because human players use their generals more wisely and aggressively than the AI. Simply put, if your general went down, odds are it was lucky fire (unlucky?) or one hell of a fight, thus rendering your man completely dead. Also, the AI tends to have either no money, or a ton of it. If they have a ton of money, they execute your men. If they have no money, and really hate you, they execute your men. They rarely bother with ransom, and never release.

I can assure you, though, that it is possible for your general to be captured alive and ransomed. I've had to buy back my prince a time or two from decidedly ugly battles.
