    Default The Complaint Of Death!

ok has anyone else noticed this rather anoying tendency for someone to create a thread with the sole purpose to complain at the exact same time as the forum is picking up activity again only to have it drop like a stone straight afterwards what the soding hell is that about:hmmm:

The more activity there is the more people jump in here from the forum index, then when someone starts a 'mod dead' thread people get turned off again.

Well, there is a small core of us who've been posting on the Heg forum for several years now and we are a very loyal fan base as I'm sure everyone is aware.

The Modders here have my full support it obviousley takes time to do this thing and one has no motivation but to help other how could someone possibly complain about it. They could keep it for the team themselves or not realesse it There not getting paid so it makes no sense to me that people would complain about this. There also proboley mad that Empire isnt out yet or Fable 2. I thingk u guys have done a wonderful job and I dont care if it takes 3 more years, I would still be very happy with it

taking longer to make this mod can only result in a better result at the end so you got my thumbs up no matter how long it takes

I hope you don't mind if I make a suggestion for a change in approach that would provide several benefits - it would stave off all the "Is this mod dead?" crap, it would keep people interested in the progress of the mod and give them something more constructive to talk about, and it might even help to speed up progress.

Here is the suggestion - open up your development by having team members post an occasional thread about what they are working on, including any technical problems.

I think your fans would probably enjoy being able to see and discuss the work as it progresses. More importantly there are a lot of modders around who would love to see this finished, but don't feel like they have the time available to sign up as a team member. If you open things up a bit I think you will get a lot of useful advice about technical problems, scripting, and the like.

In any case, good luck with the mod. Out of all the mods that have been made for RTW, this is still the one I am most looking forward to playing.

Yes this is a great Idea. People complain because they're in the dark.

The problem with "current progress" reports and "next on the to-do list" stuff is that non-modders simply can't understand how much time things can take, that things can go wrong, team morale can drop, real-life issues can get in the way etc (I couldn't understand these either before I actually tried to mod seriously). And I don't think these reports are really necessary. There are mods that have never made a "progress report" or a single "look, that's what we are working on review" to their fans and are still going strong (I can give FATW as an example, though I'm not exactly 'neutral'). It all depends on whether you deliver what you promise. If you never promise, the fans cannot blame you of breaking your promises. I grant that people have been let down by Heg, because promises were made that could not be kept as Ozz has said, for various reasons, and that's why it's the fans favourite game to bet on whether it's alive or dead, but it will take some trust here.

The very fact that this mod is still alive is almost a miracle, given that it had been in a state of comma for that long; it was the sheer will of the original Devs to see it done that kept it going despite everything that has happened (and perhaps the loyal fans who have been waiting for this 3 years, complaining or not) - and as DimeBagHo probably knows very well, the chances a mod will die are extremely high - simply compare the number of released mods with the number of dead ones. Fans should not be 'ok' with heg being released. They should be very happy even if it is released and it's full of bugs. Most mods never make it even there.

Anyway, here's a briefy for the distrustful: modfoldering has been completed, we're working on fixing some coding issues and changing some files/coding from the previous version, we've begun work on missing strat-map models/skins and re-thinking some building stuff. The to-do list includes missing UI cards, sounds implementation, basic balancing (will take a while) and basic bug-hunting (will also take a while). But holidays are approaching and things will be just slightly slower for a period, I hope that's understandable.

    Cheers.
