I had 320 Spartans against 7,000 Roman Post Mar. Spearmen. My spartans won. A great way to put them is in a box with no holes so that theres no way to get surrounded. I think Spartans didnt win yours.

Are you sure about that ?

Spartan boxes are immobile and vulnerable to artillery. Also, romans are great counter to deal with those.

In case of HVs, in campaign all Horse archer armies almost guarantees HVs. For multiplayer however it is hard and rare. Unless you play against a newbie.

Not all campaign battles are easy. I once took a general(early eastern), 3 units of Horse Archers, and a unit of Kataphracts and knocked out a spam of Phalanx Pikemen with a few Peltasts. The trick to this battle was the slighltly wooded portions of the map and the fact that my General's Bodyguard was max chevroned and the Kataphracts and Horse Archers all had three silver ones.

Almost every battle I fought in my Parthia campaign was a HV.

I would like to respectfully disagree

If you know where to hit, any noob box can be broken

I just yesterday had a Heroic Victory against egypt in campaign mode that amazed even me at the fact that I was able to win. Im defending Cathage, my army was pathetic...I had three units of peasents and three units of town watch 2 units of auxilia troops and one unit of early legionary cohort, up against (and I forget the exact make up ... how many of each unit...) Nubian Spearmen; pharoh's bowmen, desert axemen, chariots, and general's units and orangers... there had more men of vastly superior quality (I didnt even have experience on my side.... ) Not only that but they came into the city losing only like 8% of thier army thanks to the orangers and the sap points...

I pulled my men into the square and covered the road they came down on in a tight three sided formation allowing them to come in unit by unoit and I surronded them... Unit by unit they broke... I even took out the generals chariots I almost killed the pharaoh himself but he fled the battlefield)

I never expected to win all I wanted to do was kill as many as possible to facilitate my retaking the city...

that was an amazing day for the Julii family...glory shall rain down from the heavens and be upon us always

You guys should try to get some Heroic victories in Princes Tournaments or King of the Hill games.
Against AI, HV are common in campaign and custom battles.

When I first started playing R:TW. My young general against 8 Gaul Warbands. I ran around the entire thing trying to kill them from behind, and I ended up killing every single one of them. It's a battle that always stood out in my mind, and made me play R:TW even more.

PS: It was on easy, but it was one of my first battles ever, so.....it was really hard for me.

My greatest victory was on the grassy flatlands multiplayer map ( no screenies sorry : ( ). I was Carthage and my opponent chose the Greek City States.

My army 8 units of Sacred Band; full upgrades, 6 units of Sacred Band Cavalry; full upgrades, 6 units of Balaeric slingers; full upgrades.

At battles start I saw that he had just recruited 10 or so units of Spartans

He attacked my center en masse and I was able to swing my flanks on to bottleneck him, finally, my cavalry then hit his rear flank instantly routing his entire army. But, since they were surrounded they had to fight to the death : )
