Default Having problems when adding new units

I'm trying to add units of several mods to my personal moddified mod

I've done it succesfully 3 times already , but when I try to add this other unit... it CTDs, the -show_err says it's looking for a texture that isn't especified in DMB , no matter the changes I make...

I've even tried to rename the desired texture as the one it says is missing , but with no avail

I'm not trying to re-skin existing units I'm adding more units

Your UI card cannot be used if it already exists in the pack. Renaming it should work.

It it's showing a grey peasant, the UI card doesn't exist, make sure it's named correctly, and in the correct location.

it's in the correct folder, and the name isn't being used by any other unit moddel_unit\textures folder, without accepting any other sub-folder

and also why I couldn't change the location of the unit texture? , no matter what I changed to the DMB ,it would only look in

What are the names of the files? What are the dictionary entries for the corresponding units (in EDU)? Are they the same? If not read my last post.

As for a texture, you can more or less place them where ever you want, you've obviously got an error somewhere if you can move the texture file to some other location. Does it even use the texture when you have it in the default location.

yes it's the same dictionary name (copy & paste)...

and the texture is called roma_rome_principe.tga , the DMB entry says data/model_unit/textures/roman/roma_rome_principe.tga

however it wont accept it , in order to make it work I had to place the Texture in data/model_unit/textures

Some times a modeler sets a texture as a default for a model, and if u don't have that texture at a specific location the unit won't load, even if the unit does not use that texture at all. Just copy your actual texture, name it how the model asks and put it where it asks and you'll be fine.

So, you have placed the UI card in data/ui/unit_info/faction_name/ directory and it still doesn't work?

Try putting it inside your pack, if it is named correctly, then it will work, without doubt.

    inside my pack? what pack?

I'm incluiding those units to existing faction unit cards folders, I've done it 2 times already but now it doesn't want to work

    RTW packs, X:\Rome - Total War\Data\packs\ui_0.pak and ui_1.pak

I think files inside the packs have priority over normal files. If you create any new unit, it's better not to re-use old vanilla names

This happens when the modeller assigns a texture to a model in the material editor and later changes the name of the texture file. The assigned texture becomes somehow embedded in the model so the game looks for it regardless of what the DMB says..

Any way it's best not to assign a texture if it can be avoided, and changing the name of a texture after a model is made is a no no.
