    Default Iberian javelins

So I decided to play as an Iberian faction again and last time i played as them i completely ignored the javelin units except when defending a city. How do you use them in an attacking army correctly? They have a great missile attack but the range is very bad, they are almost touching enemy troops. The best i have been able to come up with is to engage with infantry then have the javelins come and launch javelins into the mob. This doesn't work out too well though. any strategies would help. thx

I assume you mean the non-Cavalry Javelins, I don't ever use the dismounted Jav units, only the Jinites.

However; their there for a reason, and every unit can be used in a good, bad, and "wow I shouldn't have done that" way.

going out in front of your army by about a few hundred feet, I would imagine their vulnerable to Cavalry but most of the time the AI is DURRR so they don't usually attack them.

They will require some micromanagement to keep them away from enemy but it's not that hard.

almughavars are pretty much your sole attack unit until DFKs, coupled with spear militia that it. if you have played R:TW, then use them like roman legions, fire a few volleys of javelins, then charge the enemy. the javelins will considerably weaken any armor and the almughavars high attack will prove useful.

Javelins are excelent against armour I hate the thing that only few factions have foot javelinmen. My advice is to concetrate fire of couple of javelin units on one enemy unit ,especialy one with heavy armour, while putting your heavy cavalry right behind them in case that enemy attacks your javelinmen with cavalry. By my expirience concetrate fire of couple units of Almughavars can destroy or decimate full unit of DFKs in a few units. Problem is that Almughavars are vulnerable to cavalry attacks so you always have to have some heavy cavalry nearby to counterpart them.

alternatively you can use your almugavars as your flanking/shock troops

place them either on the edge(s) of your battle line or in between other fot units (spear militias early game, dfk's and tercio's late game)... when the battle is joined, move them to the flank or rear of ur enemy, fire a volly or two and when you see the enemy morale at wavering charge your almugavars in melee

the reason why you should have them at the flank/rear is because you have greatly reduced chances of hitting ur own men - be careful however of enemy cavalry picking them off as they stand unprotected
There is nothing that can match the exuberance of youth.... except of course, wisdom and treachery.
