All the Monty Python movies.
Sean of the Dead & Hot Fuzz are incredible modern British movies.
Love Actually is a good one for around the holidays. I wish someone would do a version of it without the porn star vignettes so that it could be one for the whole family because it is truly outstanding.
The Harry Potter movies are of course classics.
Laurence Olivier's Henry V
The historical sidenote on that one is that a) it was allegedly shown to British troops prior to the launch of Operation Overlord and b) because of wartime rationing none of the costumes included any rear metal armor. That's why you'll never see anyone's back in that movie who wears armor.
Goodbye Mr. Chips of course for Robert Donat's awesome performance.
The Killing Fields is another incredible movie that had a worldwide effect on audiences.
There are almost too many to name really. Those just happen to be some of my favorites.
Snatch
This is England.
Lawrence of Arabia
Swear filters are for sites run by immature children.
This is England is a fantastic film, but it shouldn't be ranked as the best in a filmography as rich and engrossing as Britain's.
My bet is on Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange and Hitchcock's 39 steps.
Proud Client of Obi Wan Asterix
Trainspotting.
Lawrence of Arabia is great, also.
James Bonds all of them.
You know what, I forgot The Ruling Class. That's a great one.
One of my all time favourites "Kes" with the brilliant Brian Glover set in my own Yorkshire. Classic.
Here's a little clip.
i watched hot fuzz last night (i have it on dvd). the living statue![]()
- Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
- The Ladykillers (with Alec Guinness)
- The Bridge on the River Kwai (again with Alec Guinness)
- Henry V (with Kenneth Branagh, his performance was superior to Lawrence Olivier)
- Long Good Friday
- Zulu
- The Italian Job
A Clockwork Orange, Trainspotting, and Snatch, definite ftws..
A matter of life or death and The life and times of Colonel blimp spring to mind. No half-witted cockney gangsters in sight.
'When people stop believing in God, they don’t believe in nothing — they believe in anything. '
-Emile Cammaerts' book The Laughing Prophets (1937)
Under the patronage of Nihil. So there.
Most Peter Sellers movies and do you consider Hitchcock movies english?
I have nothing against the womens movement. Especially when Im walking behind it.
