Rome Total War Installing Error

I played Rome: Total War a couple of years ago and I decided to buy it again and play. After the fact that I download the game, I go to the play the game, and it says I need to download DirectX 9, but when I go and download it, and then try to play it still says I need to download DirectX9.

Any help on to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Did you download from Steam or something or install it from the disc? Because I heard of a lot of problems with downloading from the web. :hmmm:

I installed it from the disc, and it seems like they would ask you to download DirectX 9 if you don't already have it during the download.

Okay, first try uninstalling RTW completely, and going throught the whole REGEDIT process to uninstall every last trace.
Then, install again and see what happens.
Or if you do not know what the REGEDIT process is, here is the simple version.

-Go to the START button, find where it says RUN.
-In the text box, type in REGEDIT, exactly as it appears here.
-Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, click on it, then click SOFTWARE.
-After that , right-click on The Creative Assembly or Activision, whatever your RTW directory is. Then delete that, and click yes whenever it asks if you want to delete all subkeys.
-Next, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
-Click on SOFTWARE.
-Find Activision or The Creative Assembly, and delete it.
-Now, close this and go to MY COMPUTER as you normally would.
-Hit "SEARCH" and type in "Rome-TWini.exe".
-Hit "Search Hidden Files and Folders", and if you find it,d elete it.
-Then reinstall normally and see if it works.

After you uninstall it, and before you reinstall it, install directx9.0c. That way the game will find it.

Uninstall it, fix the registry with a program like ccleaner and re-install it

So i tried to find and install all the DirectX9 I could find but it still would not let me play it, does Direct X need drivers, if so how do I get to the Drivers to update, because I also have other Drivers I need to update.

No I am running Windows XP.

I just finished the Validation Process, now what after that?

Actually its saying I do have the same or a newer Direct X, but i dont know whats going on, Is there Drivers I need to update for direct X

It is the latest runtime for it. The best way I've seen is to uninstall RTW, uninstall directx, install this directx since it's newest ones, then install RTW and it should find it.

Click start, click run, type dxdiag, run it and post the results.

I think irishron is right, but try going to SEGA website at totalwar.com,
but I think DirectX is installed with RTW, no?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en. I did it last night to get mine up to date. Click on the link above, let it check to make sure your stuff is genuine, click download. When the download box comes up, click run. Whenit downloads and comes up with the other screens, just check, yes, agree, and whatever else will let it update for you. After that, it's automated. Let it do its updating.

After that you can check your dxdiag to see if the values changed.

Everyone thanks for the help, I was able to fix it.

But now when I go and try to play with the Barbarian Expansion it says that the host has like higher ck:1.5?, but he still is playing Barbarian it looks like.

If you have the Gold version all the updates are on it.

Yeah I do have to gold version but I don't know why it keeps telling me that its still not compatiable.
