Default And how am I supposed to anything with Wales?

    Seriously.

I'm playing on very hard, but still...

I'm about 20-25 turns in, I'd guess, and I've been struggling to keep my three starting settlements.

I've already beaten back several English invasions, including a handful of Heroic victories that I had already chalked up as defeats but managed to pull out of thanks to luck and some quick thinking and tactics.

I did lose my only city due to a boneheaded move where I took my entire army out to relieve a small army at a fortress, and the English snuck in out of nowhere and exterminated everyone.

I had some reinforcements show up and they joined the King and retook the city, but now there's another almost fully stacked English army at my gates and at one of my fortresses, which just lost a general!

Is there no end to this onslaught? I'm in debt, so I can't recruit any armies to replace the ones that are dropping like flies, the English won't ceasefire and I can't even think about launching an offensive.

I think I've lost this game... maybe I should try the Irish...they're by themselves on a small island.

    England's over there too.

I guess there is an error with Wales getting responing armies when what's his name takes settlements from the English?

Yeah, I've heard about the Welsh Faction Bug when you retake all of Wales you're supposed to get some kind Reinforcements or something the Trigger for it is broken code?

The Update for Kingdoms should fix it. :hmmm:

My problem is I haven't been able to take any settlements, so I haven't had the opportunity to get reinforcements!

I haven't done Wales on very hard but when I did it on hard/very hard I attacked really quickly. You get reinforcement troops when you capture at least two of the welsh towns so you can keep your offensive going for a surprisingly long time, despite having an awful economy. However, I'm not sure how that would work on very hard difficulty.

I'm pretty sure that in a previous thread someone said that they won with Wales on vh/vh by emigrating to Ireland and conquering it. Once you have Ireland the rest of the game is supposedly pretty easy.

well considering the AI's obliviousness to the existence of an island if theyre not on it, its not too surprising. conquer ireland, and you have won. just turtle, build up your economy and then attack one faction with multiple stacks from everywhere

My recollection of the Welsh campaign is much different to the OP's. I found that I had too many units so I was forced to attack. Each turn I was able to take an English city.... which spawned me more armies for the first 3 turns.

After this point I have 6 cities and my armies massively out-numbered my English opponents in every battle.

The welsh units are very nice and I enjoyed playing them. However, when I captured Nottingham (the English fortress/capital) inside 10 turns I decided the campaign was too easy and stopped playing it....

Another quick note: I rarely used Gwent raiders and never used the Mathrafal horsemen.

i dont know if the welsh reinforcements event has been fixed, but most of the people are referring to a time when wales wasnt getting any reinforcements from conquering english settlements or having welsh settlements captured... was quite hard then

Just curious, why would Nottingham be the English Capital...?
Not tried the Welsh yet but sounds like an itneresting challenge.

It would appear the reinforcement trigger is working....

Certainly the posting date of July 9, 2008 is well after the release of the Kingdoms update.

Yes, I received reinforcement whenever MY SETTLEMENT was sacked.

If I sacked an OPPONENT'S SETTLEMENT, I received nothing.

Not sure if this is the intended effect or not, but it certainly doesn't reward attacking cities.

I believe that there are three specific cities that you get rewarded with reinforcements for taking (not necessarily sacking) all either in Wales or on the eastern border of Wales and you'll only get the reinforcements if you have patched your game. Reinforcements are typically two stacks of four units each, with the third wave being slightly larger and higher quality.

When I sacked Nottingham the capital reverted to London as you would expect.

the reinforcements are triggered when someone's capital is taken like if someone took your capital you get reinforcement army to help take it back and the same occurs to the enemy but I have never heard of getting reinforcements by taking enemy citites.

send diplomats to scotland and ireland . secure an alliance and give them a few setlements for them to attack england for you. defend what you have or create a buffer zone with allied factions. of corse you could always sack every settlement except you capital. destroy the biuldings and sell it or let it revolt. move out your armies and march for london. just march around avoiding big battles and raiding small undefended villages for money. hopefully you can lead their attacking armies away from you lands

I just recently got a PC again, and decided to install Medieval II. My first campaign is Britannia with Wales, and I found this thread I posted almost two years ago doing the same thing!

Funny thing is it's playing out almost the exact same way. I've finally got my economy going and have beaten off the English with several heroic victories, but I just lost my main city (which the English exterminated), and I feel my days are numbered.

    Some people never learn.

    Here is my advice:

    BASICS:
#1 Attacking is the best form of defending

    WALES:
Has Strong Spearmen and can use the Scotland-Englaind Conflict to its advantage, it has great archers as well!
Simple line of spearmen covering Archers does the trick.....
