Default Soveriegnty, too much for one person?

All this socialism and capitalism has got me thinking. Is sovereignty too much of a hassle for people these days. In America it was taken for granted while in some parts of the world, only the Kings and Lords we actually sovereign.

So my question is, with all the 'free' health care and no gun types running around, is sovereignty something that the government and/or king should be entitled too? Or is it something that every man, women, and child is entitled too, perhaps the most basic human right that no one or no thing deserves to take?

Eh, what? Soveriegnty has to do with nations, not people within the nations AFAIK. Unless I am mistaken here?

Sovereignty is to do with the distribution of political power within a system, how could this be given to each individual person? everyone would have their own personal laws?

Sovereignty as in the American way before Lincoln. The people are the government as opposed to the government is the people.

America has had the electoral College since its inception! that alone takes sovereignty away from the people.
