shieldwall how to use it?

Charging with a Shieldwall is energy consuming and ineffective. A Shieldwall is adefensive formation. It greatly reduces the effects of enemy charges and long range attacks from where the Shieldwall is faceing.

I usually have my shieldwalls stay in that formation if I need them to hold the line since they're harder to hurt.

Shield wall ability is great against cavalry chagers, but I dont think is has any positive effect while fighting infantry.

position them with fronts towards the enemy, great in defence against cavalry and germaniac infantry charges, useless in ofence.

the actual effects are not clearly known, but it's sure that it works against both cavalry and infantry

Don't forget arrows. I've found them almost entirely useless against a unit using Shieldwall.
