    Default What would happen?

What would happen if i took away Voulgier and Voulge Militia's secondary weapon? Would it cause them to retain formation, or would it make a mess of things?

they have secondary weapons?? huh, never knew that
like pikemen, it would cause them to remain with voulges, making them much more effective and possibly overpowered. dont try it on ranged units thought because it doesnt do a thing

I think it would cause them to retain formation.

I tried it out taking thier two handed weapon out and it leaves them a bit overpowered, i mean in a battle with Zweihandlers they killed 101 and only lost 21.

Ive noticed they use there secondary weapon in the style of a two-handed sword

    Thanks for the responses

Any Pike unit should be "overpowered". Such units when well trained and disciplined were fearsome. The forlorn hope was used to break them up and that is why they were called "forlon hope" - they had little chance of living through the engagement. Pikemen will crush even bodyguards. However, they will take losses from the very best swords. I have watched axemen and such just seem to parry the pikes and hardly ever get a good whack in but occasionally they do. What Karma points out as 101 to 21 is about what I have experienced in an open field battle. In a street fight, however, I doubt that the Zwihandlers would do that well unless they were experienced and upgraded or the pikemen were low experience militia without armor. I was very disappointed in the effectiveness of the Zweihanders in all regards I a recent HRE campaign. Now the Forlorn Hope are another matter. They can hurt the pikemen severely. If they came in 60-man units, they would be better than New World conqistadors in Kingdomes, I bet.

They would be slaughtered by cavalry then.
