Thread: Curia Ivlia, Consulate of Lepidus/Ulpianus (II)

If the two provinces were combined, even temporarily, the job would go to Quintus Parthicus to govern them.

OOC: I would have a go at the.....governships (can't remember what it's called) but I would need to drop out of the Tribune race.

ooc: Jeb can drop out of the tribune race and then we can make him governor suffectus. Or Proquaestor if you will. It will kill two birds with one stone if we combine the provinces.

I'm going to bring the motion for combining the provinces to a vote even though there hasn't been that much discussion.

Right so Balbus becomes the new tribune, and one issue is completed.

says an unknown senator from the back of the room.

Greetings men and thank you for my election victory; and Julius Ursus, good luck in the provinces.

    sits eagerly and listens

Edit: OOC: Do I thank you? because surely in RP terms you didn't elect me.

Caesar stands..."If I may...we still have no censor or suffectus governers. For Censor I would like to nominate Senator Falco Felix because of his exploits and effort in Gaul."...Caesar sits. OOC:just to let everyone know I have a trial all ready for anyone who wants ro prosecute or defend.

"Lucretius Marco Felix will be unavailable for at least the half of the term so I don't think that nominating a Censor that is known to be inactive will be a step to the right direction. Since however it is important to have a Censor and only Falco, Africanus and Parthicus can be nominated, I would propose the following arrangement; that this August body recalls either Africanus or Parthicus from their Proconsulates to stand Censors in Rome while we nominate Caius Pontiff or Marcus Aelius Triarius to stand in their place as Proconsules suffecti."

That is a very feasible plan Senator Rufinus. I think the Proconsul Suffectus can only be Marcus Aelius, as Caius Pontiff has a job as Tribune of the Plebs, can cannot leave Rome. However, as to which of us leaves our province to take Censor, that will be a harder decision, because both our provinces have very active fronts.

Labienus Afrincanus stands to address the senate.

There will be no way that I will leave the proconsulate.
Right now it is in the hands of my son still and that will remain till I relieve him.

Then it will either have to be me being Censor, and giving Marcus Aelius a hard time in my province, or a revision to Rufinus' plan

"Now now, Senator Africanus! You shouldn't see this motion as a way to demean your power - simply because being Censor is far greater honour than being Proconsul - but as something that needs to be done! The Republic cannot do without at least one Censor; it can manage the loss of a Proconsul though..."

Whereas you may see censor as a postion of power and honour, I see it as bickering in the senate and spending more time in Rome.
I will however submit to this, that my son's imperium and governership is extended for another two years in Illyricum.
It is a fair proposal I believe and one the senate can ratify.

"So the question that abounds is this: how can we fill the Censor office? Giving a look to the Cursus Honorum, there are only three Senators that are eligible for the office; Africanus, Parthicus and Falco. Since Falco is away, it is only proper that you discuss it between you and configure who, if not both, should be Censor(s). There's no other way, gentlemen, than the one I propose if we want to abide to the Mos Maiorum and nominate only the worthy. And I deeply and sincerely pray that you do see the gravity of a, stated in the case of Africanus or non stated in the case of Marius Parthicus, refusal to come back to Rome and serve your Motherland in the highest ring of the Cursus Honorum..."

    @Africanus,

"Senator Africanus, I cannot in good conscience agree to what you ask! The office of Censor is the highest office of the Republic and thus brings great honour and power; and it is also your DUTY to stand as Censor as it is Parthicus's - and I don't see merit in a Roman that asks for something in return to do his duty..."

if they refuse the position there is nothing we can do. no where in the constitution says that they have to do a job
