    Default Problem Adding Faction

    I've been following the tutorial for adding a faction from nothing. First of all I added Norway succesfully, based upon France. Then I tried adding three other factions at the same time, based on the Moors. But I get this message in the log when M2TW is loading. Any ideas?

    EDIT: Some mucking about with the files seems to have done the trick.

    EDIT2: Hm, problem returned...

    You should change the setting of your error log from 'trace' to 'error'.
    Enter the following into your medieval2.preferences.cfg (or mod.cfg):
    Code:
    [log]
    to = logs/M2TW.system.log.txt
    ##level = * trace
    level = * error
    This will record only critical errors and your log will be in the M2TW\logs directory.
    Change the heshes from the 'trace' line to the 'error' line to reverse the effect.

    After that check the log again.

    I just noticed a very strong log, not sure if its from a previous time since it was in a different location from the other log. This is what it says:

    22:44:20.301 [system.rpt] [always] CPU: SSE2
    22:44:20.301 [system.rpt] [always] ==== system log start, build date: Jun 25 2007 version bld-medieval2-update2.1-30 (43169) ===

    22:44:23.450 [data.invalid] [error] DATABASE_TABLE error found : error reading record from file data/export_descr_unit.txt.

    It seems very strange, since I never altered anything to do with the pirate ships.

    :hmmm:

    EDIT: Checked the 'date modified' on each log, and what you see above is from the current one! It is very bizarre, I added the Kipchaks, based on Russia, the same way I cloned all the other factions.

    EDIT 2: I went to line 713 where the Pirate Ship ownership was stated as slave, and removed it. Still though I got the same crash, with this in the error log:

    Which text editor are you using?

    Notepad.

    I think the problem must be with adding too many factions. Its as if I've 'pushed' the slave faction away.

    Maybe if I try again using the Normans or Saxons instead of an eigth new faction...

    There is a limit on how many factions you can have. I believe the number is 31. The game reads the descr_sm_factions file from the top and stops when it has reached the limit. If the slave faction is at slot 32 then it will be ignored and leads to the error messages you have experienced.
    I understand your frustration, but unfortunately the log has a point when it gives you error messages. It is just difficult to find where the problem is.
    Example: you have a garrison of faction A in the settlement of region Crete. If you allocate this region to faction B then you will get the error "cannot create settlement" This is due to the old garrison.
    Get my point?

    it depends, because he seems he say it's Slave, so perhaps does he mean "rebels" and if it's rebels, he can create some mini faction, the game will count that for 0 factions.

    More clearer>> if he adds another rebels faction, there is will always 31 faction and not 32 because he will add the rebels.

    But if he means slave, the balkanics faction, it will be 32 faction and consequently a CTD!

    Descr_sm_factions has 'slaves' as faction name. This faction name is referenced throughout the game (EDU, EDB, ModelDB). Rebels is the display name from data\text\expanded.txt and has no further reference anywhere.
    You can have only one rebel faction, the same way you can have only one papal faction.
    And the 32nd faction in descr_sm_faction will be ignored. Try putting the slaves at the top of the list and England at the bottom, England will disappear.
    The so called sub factions are slaves (rebels) that have an existing faction as reference, nothing else.
