    Default Man of the hours?

I remember in Rome Total War you get a choice for adoption if you win a heroic battle without a general.
However, in this game I never get that choice no matter how many heroic battles I do.
Although most of them are from sieges it doesn't matter.....right?

I get many, I believe you Can't have a General in your army to get a man of the Hour.

Usually I get them say if I have like 4 units against maybe 6 or 7 and I win, bye alot.

i think sieges dont count towards man of the hour because CA knew of the unfair advantage of towers and walls and such were to the defender, and the attacker could have just brought an artillery train and won. it should be a field battle with a heroic victory by a lot and no general

Also, I think that in some cases, you can get a 'Man of the Hour' in an army with a general... of course, only if the general dies in the course of the battle, but you still go on to win the battle. (Which happens far more often in autoresolved battles than those fought on the battle map... )

I've also had them when my general dies in battle, and you still win with a heroic victory

I've had it happen a couple of times, im not quite sure what the criteria is however. i think its safe to assume since he gets a battlefield promotion, you'd probably have had to win the fight by a lot for him to be deserving

Men of the hour are good to get some extra generals when you are low on generals compared to the amount of regions that you've got. If you have a lot of generals compared to your amount of regions you won't get any offer to adopt one. The game simply looks if you need one extra general. So if you are low on generals simply sent some units to defeat one of those pesky rebels that are roaming your lands and their is a great change you will get an offer. Usually auto-resolving is enough.

you gotta be drastically outnumbered and you cant have a general or family member in the lead (in other words just a captain). Also, if the captain you start with dies in the battle, you can still get a man of the hour, as if reflecting someone took charge when the first captain bit the dust.

i very rarely get them because most of the time i don't fight unless well prepared and usually try to have a general and/or family member leading the way.

Make sure your "stand-in" general gets into some pivotal combat against a foe which is rated as more powerful than your own force (though I'm not convinced that they have to be more powerful than your own force, I believe forces of equal power where you simply crush the enemy through superior tactics will also yield a man of the hour ). I strongly suggest taking control of these fights to ensure that you get a "man of the hour".

Take a general and attack 1 unit of rebel archers somewhere in your territory...

...and you will have a "Man of the Hour".

You mean take a unit that isn't already a general...

For instance if you take a full stack of peasents and attack an army and auto-resolve and win there is a 65% chance of getting a man of the hour.

How do the stats for these newly minted generals look? Are they pretty decent because of the nature in which they attained the rank?

You can always refuse them. Generally they have decent stats. I can usually adopt generals with three stars. They also don't come with idiot like ages. I had one normal marriage offer of an 69 year old lousy general. Men of the hour are usually in their twenties or thirties.

worst case, they come with 2-3 traits with 1 star and lowest loyalty i've seen is 4-5. So there usually worth it no matter what.

Wow that is impressive. I'll have to try to get something like that going.

i actually just got one when i had half a stack of militia against 2-3 rebel units, so who knows how it works

The computer determines if you are low on generals compared to the amount of regions that you have. If you have a low generals/regions ratio then it is very likely you will get a MOTH regardless at the odds you were fighting.

something odd happened to me last night:

well first this was kingdoms, crusade campaign but anyway... i was playing Byzantium, and i had a stack that had two generl units in it. i met the opposing army, and i was comfortable with the odds and did not feel like controlling the battle so i autoresolved.

and what happened? I got a man of the hour, however, it was the second general in the stack! he's already a general, family member even i believe, and the computer makes him a moth and een adds like 5 really goo stats to his alreadt impressive list. really, really weird. i guess the ai is confused when you autoresolve with more than one general unit in the same stack...?
