Default what's the point of living?

in other words, the age old question: why am i here?
why was i 'created'? for those of you who believe in a creator.
is there a purpose to it all?
    why is life?

you are gathering information that will be necessary for the eventual creation of god--- gods purposes cannot be fathomed but be assured it goes on until nothing matters and you may as well be staring into the darkness; because everything is black when you see the light.

I don't beleave there is any reason why we are here, we just exist, like a rock exists, but I'm going to take advantage of my life and enjoy while it I still live.

Why do you think we are here? Could such a question really have one answer?

I think you found your answer in your question, why am I here.

Beware of seeking answers to questions that might not have actual answers.

By all means, ask questions, but don't always expect an answer, because it's very easy to make up your own answers to questions, and they're not always true.

You might win the lottery or convince a girl way hotter than you to marry you or even a couple of hot girls.

Personally? I greatly enjoy living. I think it's a lot of fun. So I guess you could say that my purpose in life is to enjoy it as much as I can while it lasts.

Thats a pretty good answer, I think. There is a lot of fun to be had in life and a lot of pleasures to experience.

And once you are no longer capable of enjoying it, because your body has become too enfeebled, or because you are in continual pain, or your mind is rotting with age, then that purpose is frustrated and the logical course is to take your own life honourably.

Yet people don't do that - they cling to the last desperate shreds their pitiable, miserable diseased, age-withered, exhausted, shivering existence until they are finally broken upon the wheel of the world in absolute debasement and dishonour.

You're wrong. The real purpose of living is living. That's it - the brute, dumb, animal fact of the chemical life-processes continuing. Shorn of all meaning. Pointless. Empty.

You know this in your heart. There is no escape.

Well obviously. I think the OP was looking for a different reason, though, Some sort of justification, so I gave him the best that I could.

Also, just to play a bit of devil's advocate here, you do realize that suicide rates are very high among the (white male at least) elderly, yes?

hmmm, I've got a theory why, men tend to drink more than women, so get depressed easier, and whites can't stand the sun so much, so stay out of it, develop SAD year round, a top themselves. Of course, it's only a theory...

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

No point. You live and die, and have nothing left to be celebrated or even remembered. It's no better than the life of an ant or a monkey, really sad

You purpose in life is to be the best servant to the corporate machine you can. I recommend you embrace the mundane and mechanical process of modern life and enjoy it to the best of your abilities.

Modern life is pretty good. Try being a polish peasant even just a hundred years ago. Or move to Bulgaria.
Even 25 years ago speaking like this realistically had to be done in person, with people who know you.

    I agree.

But it's all about relativity. It's not until you actually live the hardship of a medieval peasant will you actually appreciate modern comforts and organization.

I think I can appreciate. Not being pox scarred. Not working from dawn to dusk. Not living in a hovel. TV. Food of all kinds that is affordable. Internet porn and its influence on high school girls. Any book I can imagine. Hygiene. A society that pretty much leaves me alone while providing everything.

Taxes that only suck a little.

You're a historically aware young man. Not everyone in our societies are.
