    Default the books

anyone interested in a thread to discuse the books? Thoughts about the previous books and predictions/thoughts on the upcoming book(s)? I would jump right into it but I wanted to make sure before I started because for a person who hasent read all the available books yet (hurry hurry hurry sept 30 is right around the corner) I wouldnt want to spoil it for them. And I wanted to make sure Gampie was ok with it or if he wants to keep the forum strickly game focused?

I think it is a good idea, just make sure there are spoiler warnings in the thread title.

I haven't had a lot of time for reading lately, but I'm currently going through AFFC for the second time, and have just completed the first Asha chapter, The Kraken's Daughter. She is emerging as one of my favourite characters. Jon Snow is my clear favourite though and probably the character I can relate to the most.

Who do you think Jon's parents really are?

I thought that Rhaegar and Lyanna were Jon's parents long before I ever thought to look on the internet. The clues support that guess much more than any of the other theories, and it makes for the possibility of some neat developments after the reveal, which I believe will happen sometime in the upcoming book.

BTW- September 30th may not be so far away, but it's also quite certainly not the release date of any GRRM books that I know of... The news is somewhat recent, but don't expect anything before December at the earliest, with April far more likely...

@The Hound: a thead about the books is certainly welcome. After all, they are more important than this mod.

I'm really interested in Dany's storyline and especially
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
how she will handle her dangerous dragons and what her reactions will be towards her wooers. Victarion will most likely not be succesful. I don't see him having any luck. Quentyn Martell might be an interesting partner but why would she need him? The Martells are already in her pocket. Doran hates the Lannisters and will almost certainly support the Targaryen cause like he did during Robert's Rebellion. If Dany marries Willas - not that I think this to be likely - she would have the Tyrells on her side. Margaery's and Tommen's marriage has not been consummated so it can be set aside, meaning she can still marry some other powerful noble. That is, if Margaery survives her trial. Mace is already furious about Cersei's reign and the Tyrells also supported the Targaryen cause earlier on. If Dany sets foot on Westeros with these houses behind her, and her Unsullied, dragons and motley army she will be heralded as some demi-goddess. Stark and Tully - what's left of them - would rally to her cause and I believe Arryn too. Things are looking good for Dany, imo.
I wonder what will happen when she reaches the Free Cities. And then there is also Euron's horn. I hope it malfunctions when he blows it because a sadistic madman like him controlling a dragon?? :hmmm:

Let's not forget Coldhands. I want to know what's really up with this dude. Has he something to do with Benjen Stark? And who controls the Others?
And what's this monster that Qyburn's has made in the black cells? It's often referred to as 'Gregorstein'. An animated corpse of the Mountain with the head of .... something.

cool man a ton of good thoguhts here!

@DaedalusV2.0 Sept 30th is the release date listed on the publishers website although that may be an "open for pre-order" date and you right in it probably wont come until atleast december but one can always dream

Im with Gampie on the Dany storyline, things are going to get very interesting!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I first thought that book 5 would be too early for Dany's return to Westeros but considering the name of the next book and the fact that atleast one of the dragons now has a taste for humans, which i believe will excellerate there development, it seems more and more like it may hapen in book 5. I just thought that would be a final book kind of event but now im not that sure. Plus as gampie has mention Westors is ripe for a take over. The Starks are all but wiped out, the Tullies are alone and hurt, the Aryyns are hiding in there mountains, the Lanisters are/will be in disarea and with The Martells and Tyrell obvious allies who will stand against her?

in regards to Jon, I know there have been some referances made that would make it seem like Jon may be the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna but how many times was it stated how much Jon looks llike Ned. One of the things Catlyn was whinning about was the fact the Jon looked so much like Ned and Rob didnt. Now I could definitly come up with things that would make Rhaegar and Lyanna Jons parents, like how quickly Maester Aomon took to Jon or perhaps Ned was somehow responsable for Lyanna's death and that why he took Jon as his son or that Neds love of Lyanna and Roberts lust to kill all Targaryen blood caused Ned to take Jon and claim him as his bastard. but theres just too many referances to how much Jon looks like Ned. When I read that Jon wasnt Neds then I'll believe it!

....and Coldhands? whats up with that. At first I thought he would turn out to be Benjin Stark but since Bran saw him and didnt say anything I guess he isnt, but who is he? He seems to be a friend but.....

And what of Stannis, what will he do in the north? and does Milisandra (?spelling?) really believe he is this chosen king? Or I kinda get the feeling Stannis is just a tool and that the real chosen king is........JON!! although that would support the Rhaegar and Lyanna theory. Stannis is going to try and take the castles at the wall, Jon will kill him and then for some reason end up killing Mance and theres the blood of two kings thing.....

......and here is a prediction. Tyrion hooks up with Dany (not hook up hook up, just joins up with her).....Remeber Tyrion telling Jon how he wanted to be a Dragon And he is a big part in getting her back to the 7 kingdoms!.

Tyrells are not the obvious allies of Dany anymore. they might have sided with Aerys in the past but now Margaery is a Queen and Mace intends for it to stay so.

I'm not so sure of this anymore. Remember, Mace is coming down from Storm's End and sent Randyll to KL as well. He is pretty furious with the way Cersei handled things in his absence. What did Margaery call Cersei? I think it was "evil, scheming b!tch". I think the next book will show a growing rift between the Tyrells and the Lannisters.

True that but it seems Tyrells are going for the throne. No chance for a reconciliation with Dany unless we have a lesbian wedding.

What about Loras? Or Garlan? Mace wants a grandkid on the throne. He doesn't much seem to care which of his children is the parent of that grandchild.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Jon looks like Ned? It's repeatedly mentioned in AGoT that Jon looks a lot like Arya. It's one of the many things that draw the two of them together, and it's made quite certain that we can't miss the fact. At the same time, Arya is stated to look and act almost eerily like Lyanna did at the same age. So yes, Jon looks like Ned. But he also looks a lot like Lyanna.
Additionally, the way the whole thing was set up, it gave Jon absolute cover no matter what he ended up looking like- The Daynes are well known to be very similar in appearance to House Targaryen, and with Ashara set up as the prospective mother, it gives a perfect excuse in the event that Jon ends up with platinum hair or some other Targaryen-induced trait. So, there's two things that point to it there, but those aren't all. In ACoK, during the House of the Undying scene, one of the visions Dany has is of a blue flower growing in a crack on a massive wall of ice. Lyanna was well known to love blue roses, and a child of hers could be simbolically represented by such a flower. There are other minor hints of foreshadowing as well, mostly within Dany chapters. That said, certain events in ASoS, particularly Rob's naming Jon his heir in that proclamation he sent with... Maege Mormont, was it? Anyways, he sent this letter proclaiming Jon his heir with one of the two Mormont ladies, directly towards Howland Reed. This is why I'm convinced that anything relating to Jon's parentage will be revealed in this book.

OH MAN! Talk about a huge brain fart! I completely confused Lyanna with someone else. Your absolutly right of course Jon would look like Ned, if he came from Lyanna, oh man that opens a whole new perspective. Im glad you caught that and pointed it out, I cant believe I read "Lyanna" and It just didnt register at all! That goes alot better with my feeling on Maester Aoman (?spelling?), he may be blind but that guy knew stuff

Anyone here part of the Catelyn Tully hate club?

Good news: She's not in the mod!

    (yet)

    -Storm

"Five had been his brothers. Oswell Whent and Jon Darry. Lewyn Martell, a prince of Dorne. The White Bull, Gerold Hightower. Ser Arthur Dayne, Sword of the Morning. And beside them, crowned in mist and grief with his long hair streaming behind him, rode Rhaegar Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone and rightful heir to the Iron Throne."

since Ned is dead that works but I wouldn't have been surprised if she would have been one of Robs ancillaries

Did the Mormont carrying Rob's letter get away before the Red Wedding? I dont' remember. If so, that's 3 factions in the north, although, if Jon is proclaimed lord/king of the North i'm sure most of the houses(Umbers/Glovers/Manderly/etc)(Karstarks went to Stannis already) would go to him over Roose Bolton, since most of the north hates the Dreadfort and the Boltons, especially once Bran/Rickon make their re-appearance. If that happens I wonder what Stannis will do...maybe make an attempt on Jon? or try and use him like he did before.

Raynn: The answer to your question is yes.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
That said, your entire scenario revolves around Jon saying yes to the proclamation. I think he's made it pretty clear that he will not agree to be his brother's heir. Of course, any news of Targaryen (or non-Ned) heritage could very well change everything. If, for example, Howland Reed shows up and tells Jon that his real name is Viserys II Targaryen or some such, it might screw with his thought process a bit.

Catelyn Hate Club? Count me out- I never really liked her, but I don't hate her either.
