Pike-men

I came across an annoyance whilst playing m2tw, but I don't think it can be categorised as a tecnical difficulty...

I was just playing a siege defence, and wanted to place pikemen all around the main gate like i used to do in rtw, but lo and behold, they come out of formation, ie they no longer have their pikes in a horizontal position... Is this usual, and do they put them back down again when being attacked?

Well either that or they pull out their daggers.

They keep their pikes in horizontal position only in spearwall formation which is their special ability, but spearwall don't work if you rearange them and stretch their lines. But don't worry, if they get attacked they will use their pikes anyway.

It was in the deployment phase... and the spearwall was turned on

yes its usual
whenever pikes are not in an immediately threatening situation, they will raise their pikes. if you want extra security, you can turn on guard mode and as soon as the battle starts (or a little after) then they will go into their guard mode position

it helps when you turn on guard mode ( the shieldbutton)
then they will fight with their pikes till the end.
