Just picked up 'The Blooding of Jack Abolute'. Very fun, culminates with the Battle of the Plains of Abraham.
The as yet young Jack Absolute series is great, targeting very exciting times that aren't covered much in literature. I actually like the Jack Absolute character more than Richard Sharpe these days. Cornwell is flogging a tired race horse with his endless "Sharpe's Anger" "Sharpes Knickers" "Sharpes Returning to Waterloo to Find his Lost Watch", ad nauseum.
If there's one complaint I have about the Absolute books it's that the Patrick O'Brien-esque style of English banter, and cock-a-hoop debonair antics are laid on a bit thick at times, but all in all CC Humphreys is a good author.
Anyone else reading of the adventures of Jack Absolute?
