    Default Kingdoms SecuROM problem

    Hi,

Don't usually post here but I have been checking this site out regulary for years and use it for it's amazing mods but today I need your help with a technical problem.

It's to do with Kingdoms and when I try to run the game I get the follow message: "SecuROM™ has determined that emulation tools like 'Alcohol l20%' or 'Daemon Tools' are running. Please be informed that SecuROM™ protected applications will not work with such tools."

According to a Vista search I dont actually have either of those programmes which cause the problem.

So any help would be greatly welcomed.

Well Torrents do that, you usually need either of those to play them, so Id recommend just re-installing it.

It is possible that you have an other emulation software on your hard drive. Anything that can emulate a CD-drive is probably suspicious to SecuRom.

Oh right thanks guys. I did do the search for the programmes in my PC but could not find them. I will look in the technical forum for more info.

Edit: I have reinstalled the game 4 times but to no avail.

SEGA technical support said to do the following:

There are a number of reasons this error may occur from an issue with the disc itself to conflicts with another programme running on the PC. The steps outlined below should help:

First, check to see if there are any scratches, fingerprints, or marks of any kind on the disk surface. Something even as small as a piece of hair or a very light scratch can cause this error. If you find any fingerprints or debris try cleaning the CD with a soft cotton cloth.

    Close all background tasks

If you have any virus protection programs like Norton or McAfee, temporarily disable them by right clicking on the icon in the system tray (lower right corner of the desktop) and selecting "Disable" or "Exit".

Ensure that any emulation software (such as Dameon Tools, Clone CD, Alcohol 120% etc) is disabled. If you are unable to disable the emulation software, create a new user account and try running the game under the new account.

To create a new account with administrator rights:

    - Click Start
    - Control Panel
    - User Accounts

(If you are using Windows Vista choose 'Manage another account')

    - Create New Account
    - Choose account name eg. “Games”
    - Click Next
    - Choose “Computer Administrator” as Account Type
    - Click Create

After the account has been created, Log Off via Start and Switch User

Choose the new account (eg. Games) to log in and install under the newly created account.

It did nothing for me so they said I will have to edit the registry. I am awaiting a e-mail on the steps to do that. I will post it when it arrives.

    Hello,

Please rename your original <KINGDOMS.exe> (located in the folder C:/Program Files (x86)/SEGA/Medieval II Total War) to <KINGDOMS.old>. Then, click on the link below or copy and paste it into your web browser. This will open a blank webpage and a File Download window. From the File Download window click Open, extract the new <KINGDOMS.exe> into the original's folder and re-start the application.

The link for the new file is:
    http://www.securom.com/support/custo...4/kingdoms.zip

If the problem persists, please send another analysis file of the latest executable to us.

    Best regards,

This problem has now been resolved by a file that secuRom sent to me. If anybody would like the file them just post here and I will send it to you. It worked for me.

You can get software from Sega that'll remove SecuROM.
You have to ask them and they'll show you where to download, unfortunately you have to follow the instructions carefully to manually use it.

Sega pointed me towards SecuROM and they fixed it. Either way both have the same end result.
